A day-of-performance lottery for $25 seats will be held at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre (222. West 51 St).
On Monday evening, February 23 at 8:00pm, the Broadway community (and beyond) is coming together for one of the most important events of the year - Defying Inequality: The Broadway Concert -- A Celebrity Benefit for Equal Rights, a one-night only concert event at the Gershwin Theatre (222 W. 51st Street). The special star-studded evening will feature performers from stage & screen - from Saturday Night Live to Spring Awakening - all to benefit Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force. 100% of the profits from this spectacular event will be donated directly to Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force, five charitable organizations working to promote equality and protect civil rights for the gay and lesbian community. Defying Inequality: The Broadway Concert, A Celebrity Benefit for Equal Rights, is produced by 4Good Productions, the same presenters of the 2005 event Broadway's Celebrity Benefit for Hurricane Relief at the Gershwin Theatre. Featuring over 200 Broadway performers, the 2005 event raised more than $200,000 in just one night. The American Theatre Wing is now accepting applications for its 2009 SpringboardNYC Program, to be held on June 1 - 12, 2009 in New York City. At this two week college-to-career transition program, students have the opportunity to participate in training sessions and workshops in preparation for finding jobs in the New York theatre community while living in New York. Taught by industry professionals, sessions include on-your-feet audition training with directors and casting directors and seminars with the industry's leading agents and managers, as well as intimate conversations with working actors.

There will be a benefit concert at the Laurie Beechman Theater At West Bank Cafe to honor Fulton Opera House's late artistic director, Michael Mitchell. Mitchell passed away in September of 2008. The event will be held on January 25 at 7pm. Tony nominee Jonathan Groff will be among the performers, the cast will also include Rachel Coloff, Jenna Coker-Jones, Christopher Kale Jones, Lyndy Franklin, Gregg Goodbrod, Matt Gibson, Michael McGuirk, Matt Simpkins, Tara Bruno, Jessica Kademenos, Mark Fisher, Steph Wilberding, Julia Osborne, Chris York, Harold Barnard, Nathaniel Shaw, Chris Crowthers, Eric Neher, Eric Ulloa, Michael Strassheim, Nicky Venditti, Gavin Waters, Scott Sussman, Stephanie Lynne-Mason, and Danny Gardner. Several alumni from productions that Mitchell directed for the Fulton will perform. Proceeds benefit the Michael Mitchell Endowment, supporting his legacy of theater produced at the Fulton.
