Hudson Theatre Works to Kick Off Inaugural Season with OF MICE AND MEN, 4/5-21

Hudson Theatre Works, New Jersey's newest Equity theatre company will begin it's inaugural season with John Steinbeck's classic tale of friendship and compassion, Of Mice and Men. It is scheduled to run Thursdays thru Sundays, April 5th - 21st, at the historic Park Performing Arts Center (www.parkpac.org), 560 32nd Street, Union City, New Jersey, evenings at 8PM and matinees at 2PM. Tickets are $25 each with senior and student discounts available.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company has announced its 2013-2014 20th Anniversary Season schedule. All productions will feature Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's Resident Company of Artists. CSC's 20th season of bringing the classics to life in Cincinnati is generously sponsored by The Otto M. Budig Family Foundation. This season, CSC is proud to become one of only five theaters in the United States to 'Complete the Canon' by producing all 38 plays by William Shakespeare. 20th Anniversary Season Subscription packages went on sale February 1, 2013 and experienced a record breaking first day of sales. Taylor as Winfield; Stan Graner as Uncle John; Mikaela Krantz as Rose of Sharon; Austin Tindle as Connie Rivers and Conner Wedgeworth as Al Joad.

Regional Opera Company of the Week: Sarasota Opera

Sarasota Opera has a long history of bringing opera to the people along the Gulf Coast. Starting in 1960 when the group was called Asolo Opera Guild the company presented a touring chamber-sized company, Turnau Opera's productions in the 320 seat Asolo Theater at the Sarasota Ringling Museum of Art. Starting in 1973 the company began producing their own productions when they recognized the need for a theater more conducive to opera. The company bought the former A.B. Edwards Theater and began renovations in 1982. In 1984 the company, now being called Sarasota Opera, opened the Sarasota Opera House which is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Previews are tonight, January 30, 31, and February 1 before a February 2 opening at Z Space (450 Florida Street, San Francisco). The production runs through February 24.

A Noise Within Presents THE GRAPES OF WRATH, Opening 2/23

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, presents FRANK GALATI'S adaptation of JOHN STEINBECK'S iconic THE GRAPES OF WRATH, opening Saturday, February 23 and closing Saturday, May 11, 2013 (previews begin Saturday, February 16), which brilliantly distills the quintessential American novel to its core while preserving its essence as perhaps the greatest American travel tale ever written. Directed by Michael Michetti, this timely work, filled with heartbreak and strength, features Steinbeck's words almost exclusively as well as deeply evocative music that includes period hymns, Dust Bowl songs and original music by Michael Smith written for the play's original 1988 Steppenwolf Theatre Company production, hailed by the London Daily Mail as "shatteringly perfect." The Chicago Sun-Times praised Frank Galati's adaptation as "utterly faithful to its source - that it is not only uncompromising, but devoid of sentimentality, and that it is flawless in the way it sweeps us into the lives of the characters, and their time, without a wasted word or motion." The run includes a 'Pay What You Can" date on Thursday, February 21.

A Noise Within Announces TOBACCO ROAD Reading, 1/8

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, offers a free, one-night-only reading of JACK KIRKLAND's powerful drama TOBACCO ROAD on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 7 pm, in its new state-of-the-art Pasadena theatre. Directed by Apollo Dukakis and featuring A Noise Within resident artists, this Depression-Era Broadway blockbuster, which exposes the South's social and racial injustices with biting satirical humor, portrays an ignorant, dysfunctional and hardscrabble family of Georgia sharecroppers whose spirits are as depleted as the soil in which they toil. Family patriarch Jeeter Lester and his clan are caught up in the excesses of evangelism and the dark side of lust as they strive just to survive the devastation of poverty. Tobacco Road, based on the novel by Erskine Caldwell, holds the record as the second longest running non-musical in Broadway history.

Olney Theatre Center Begins Search for New Artistic Director

Olney Theatre Center announces that Martin Platt is no longer serving as the Artistic Director of the Theatre. An Artistic Director search will begin immediately and Olney Theatre Center plans to fill this position by early 2013. In the interim, Alan Wade will be serving as our Artistic Director.

Sarasota Opera Receives NEA Grant

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced today that Sarasota Opera is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Sarasota Opera is recommended for a $30,000 grant to support to support performances of Carlisle Floyd's opera Of Mice and Men, as part of the third year of the 'American Classics Series,' accompanied by significant educational programming.
