Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that critic John Simon, has been let go from Bloomberg Media who hired him in 2005 after he was let go from New York Magazine after 36 years. Riedel notes that Bloomberg says he's retiring, while Simon claims he's been let go. Jeremy Gerard and Manuele Hoelterhoff will now be splitting Broadway duties at Bloomberg News.

In a world increasingly dominated by texts and tweets, a timely new opera will offer a digital-age take on the time-honored tragic heroine. 'The Empty Hours' (Las Horas Vacias) by acclaimed Spanish composer Ricardo Llorca will have its staged world premiere at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on November 19th. The tale of a lonely woman whose obsession with the internet fuels an extraordinary fantasy world, 'The Empty Hours' will be presented by the New York Opera Society in a special, one-night only performance.

Direct from its acclaimed, sold-out run in Los Angeles, The Pee-Wee Herman Show began its 48-performance limited run on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 and officially opened on Thursday, November 11 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd street). The engagement will run through January 2.

Learning the idiom of photography through the Photo League, where he was a member and befriended Sid Grossman, Vestal developed a distinctive approach outside the general doctrine associated with that group, generally eschewing the photographic essay in favor of single images that could stand on their aesthetic qualities alone.
