The 33rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards were announced yesterday, with Acting Up Stage, Nightwood Thetare and Theatre Passe Muraille emerging as the leaders of the pack with the most number of nominations in their respective divisions. The Awards will be distributed in a ceremony hosted by Thom Allison at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts on June 25th, 2012 and BWW is thrilled to bring its readers photo coverage of the nomination event.

Leslie Lester Awarded TAPA's 2012 Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award

The Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award (LMJH Award) was inaugurated in 2008 and recognizes the important work of theatre, dance and opera administrators. Recipients of the LMJH Award have at least 10 years of demonstrated commitment to the performing arts, in addition to having made an impact on the industry in Toronto. The award is named after Leonard McHardy andJohn Harvey, the celebrated owners of Toronto's Theatrebooks, which they co-founded in 1975, and now stands as one of the longest surviving independent bookstores in the country.

Circle Theatre's 30th Anniversary Season continues with the Southwest premiere of Seven in One Blow, or The Brave Little Kid, an adapted children's play conceived and written by Randy Sharp and Axis Company. When Seven in One Blow first premiered in 2002, The New York Times wrote, 'As the brave little kid triumphs over an ogre, a witch, selfish royalty and a monster, the audience learns not to judge anything by its appearance, from parents to peas.' Circle Theatre's production officially opened Saturday evening, November 19 at 7:30pm.

Circle Theatre Presents BECKY'S NEW CAR as Season's Third Show, 7/28-8/27

Circle Theatre's 30th Anniversary Season continues with Becky's New Car, a new play by renowned playwright Steven Dietz. When Becky's New Car first premiered in 2008, Variety claimed that it 'takes the audience on a smart, comic cruise through the perils of middle-aged longing and regret.' In 2009, it was one of six finalists for the prestigious Steinberg New Play Award given by the American Theatre Critics Association. Preview performances are Thursday, July 28; Friday, July 29; and Saturday, July 30 (matinee). The production officially opens Saturday evening, July 30, at 8:00pm, followed by a post-show party with the cast and crew.
