Avant Garde music aficionados across the globe are excited about the forthcoming second album by Dutch visual sound artist René van Commenée under the guise Mr Averell titled 'Gridlock'. Van Commenée is known in The Netherlands for his music (sound) art objects, theatrical performances and soundtracks for theatre, fireworks spectacles and film.

Award-winning Canadian jazz pianist, vocalist and songwriter Laila Biali, who has toured with Suzanne Vega, Chris Botti and Paula Cole, recorded with and supported Sting, and played all over the world at Tokyo's Cotton Club, Peru's El Festival Internacional de Lima, and Carnegie Hall in New York City, will be taking over SubCulture for a residency in May!

On Wednesday, April 3rd, Lord & Taylor will host "Shop Smart. Do Good." in support of local charitable organizations. The event will give non-profit organizations the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars in one special day. The event will include personal appearances by New York Basketball legend John Starks, local historian and author John Ellis Kordes, complimentary makeup consultations from Dior, NARS, Chanel and others, cigar rolling, and more.

Foxtails Brigade, Jacques Ibula, Tad Worku and more with 100 percent of proceeds to American Red Cross Disaster Relief for Hurricane Sandy (TONIGHT, 11/6) and Ferenc Nemeth Triumph Band feat. Bob Sheppard, Lionel Loueke & Daniel Szabo (Tue, 12/18).

Loyola University New Orleans alumnus and noted jazz pianist Matt Lemmler '90 will return to campus to perform a special concert with the New Orleans Jazz Revival Ensemble, featuring guitarist Steve Masakowski, bassist James Singleton and drummer Geoff Clapp, on Saturday, June 23 to at 7 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium in Monroe Hall.

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. has announced updated programming for the two free performances it is presenting on September 10 and 11 at 5pm in Nelson A. Rockefeller Park (North end of Battery Park City, west of River Terrace) to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001.

For bassist/composer Sean Smith, his forthcoming CD 'Trust' opens an exciting new chapter in his musical life. It's his third album as a leader but his first since 2001 and the debut release for his own imprint, Smithereen Records. It features his well-traveled quartet of guitarist John Hart, saxophonist John Ellis, and drummer Russell Meissner, exploring his original compositions. And it marks a rededication to his music following his recovery from a career-threatening incident in 2007.
