The American premiere of John Doyle's Ten Cents a Dance opens today on the Williamstown Theatre Festival (WTF) Main Stage. The refined production of the new Rodgers and Hart musical, which Doyle first conceived at England's Watermill Theatre, marks the first time a new musical has ever been presented on WTF's Main Stage. Ten Cents a Dance will be the final presentation on the Main Stage for the 2011 Season at WTF, running through August 28, 2011 and opening August 12, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.Ten Cents a Dance is a co-production with McCarter Theatre Center. Conceived and directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd, Company), using the songs of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Ten Cents a Dance features a dazzling cast of WTF friends and favorites including Diana DiMarzio (Sweeney Todd) as Miss Jones Four, Tony Award-nominee Malcolm Gets (Anything Goes at WTF; Amour) as Johnny, Tony Award-winner Donna McKechnie (The Threepenny Opera at WTF; A Chorus Line) as Miss Jones Five, Lauren Molina (Rock of Ages;Sweeney Todd) as Miss Jones One, Jane Pfitsch (Company; The 39 Steps) as Miss Jones Two, and Jessica Tyler Wright (Sweeney Todd; Company) as Miss Jones Three.

Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced that A.C.T. core acting company member Gregory Wallace has accepted a much-coveted tenured associate professor of acting position at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and will step down from his position at A.C.T.

Billy Elliot has been electrifying Toronto audiences since it opened in March, and recently saw the addition of some new cast members as Toronto actors David Keeley and Jake Epstein joined the show in the roles of Billy's father and brother respectively. David Keeley, most recently seen as Dennis in the Toronto production of Rock of Ages, sat down to talk to BWW about the challenges associated with coming into the production after its been up and running for so long, and the differences between Billy Elliot and Rock of Ages.

The success of Walla Fest on July 10 has inspired the intrepid creators in collaboration with Iron Age Theatre and The Centre Theater, Yesenia Bello, Anthony Bui and Makeba Robinson are planning to make Walla Fest a regular musical event on the Norristown Arts Hill.

Molina starred in the 2005 hit Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd and the Broadway production of ROCK OF AGES. Off-Broadway credits include, Henry, Sweet Henry (The York), Meet Me in St. Louis and Just So Stories (National Tour, Theatreworks/USA). Pianist Scott Bradlee enlisted the help of Molina, bassist Adam Kubota, and drummer Allan Mednard, put together a jazzy cover of Britney Spears' Till the World Ends. Check it out below!
Arena Stage, Kansas City Rep, et al. Win 2011 Edgerton Foundation New American Play Awards

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the first round of 2011 Edgerton Foundation New American Play awards granted to TCG member theaters across the U.S. The awards, totaling $485,000, allow 19 theaters the opportunity for extra time in the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, helping to extend the life of the play after its first run. A second group of 2011 awards will be announced in September.

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the West Coast Premiere of John Morogiello's comedy Engaging Shaw. Directed by Henry Wishcamper, Engaging Shaw will run July 29 - Sept. 4 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of The Old Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run July 29 - Aug. 3. Opening night is Thursday, Aug. 4 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE or by visiting the Box Office at 1363 Old Globe Way in Balboa Park.

Following on from the Menier Chocolate Factory's acclaimed productions of Sunday in the Park with George and A Little Night Music, Stephen Sondheim's latest musical, Road Show opened last night, July 6. This production is directed and designed by the Tony Award Winning John Doyle and features David Bedella, Michael Jibson, Jon Robyns, Gillian Bevan and Glyn Kerslake.
