Alan Alda Receives 2013 Common Wealth Award for Dramatic Arts

Four renowned achievers will be honored for their lifetime accomplishments with the 34th Annual Common Wealth Awards of Distinguished Service. The awards recognize individuals who have enriched modern society in a range of human endeavors. The 2013 Common Wealth Award winners are: Alan Alda, celebrated actor, director and screenwriter, for Dramatic Arts; David McCullough, preeminent author and historian, for Literature; Jane Pauley, leading broadcast journalist, Today Show contributor and author, for Mass Communications; Martin Sheen, film legend, social activist and humanitarian, for Public Service.

Evolution embraces that concept and celebrates today's musical innovator.

Alarm Will Sound to Perform World Premiere of Tyondai Braxton's FLY BY WIRE at Carnegie Hall, 4/6

On Saturday, April 6 at 9:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, the innovative contemporary chamber ensemble Alarm Will Sound gives the world premiere of Fly By Wire by former Battles singer and guitarist, composer Tyondai Braxton, a work commissioned by Carnegie Hall. Artistic Director Alan Pierson conducts the program of music written expressly for Alarm Will Sound, which also includes New York premieres by Charles Wuorinen and John Orfe-the ensemble's pianist- as well as Dublin-based composer Donnacha Dennehy, whose scenes from The Hunger will be performed with mezzo-soprano soloist Rachel Calloway. David Lang's 2002 work, increase, completes the program.

Dudamel Conducts the LA Phil in the World Premiere of THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE OTHER MARY, 3/7-10

Following Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic's successful world premiere of LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams' The Gospel According to the Other Mary last season, they present the oratorio in a theatrical setting at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Thursday and Friday, March 7 and 8, at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, March 10, at 2 pm. Once again the Los Angeles Master Chorale and six soloists: mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor, contralto Tamara Mumford, tenor Russell Thomas and countertenors Daniel Bubeck, Brian Cummings and Nathan Medley, return for Adams' large-scale LA Phil-commissioned work. The production also features dancers Michael Schumacher, Anani Sanouvi and Troy Ogilvie. Iconoclastic director Peter Sellars oversees the world premiere staging of the work. The project will then be taken on tour with its European premiere during the orchestra's international residency at the Barbican London, and continuing performances in Lucerne and Paris, followed by the East Coast premiere at Avery Fisher Hall in New York.

Catherine Borek Joins Post-Film Panel for Rubicon Theatre's Screening of OT: OUR TOWN Doc Today

Rubicon Theatre Company previously announced that Catherine Borek, star of the documentary 'OT: OUR TOWN,' will join director Scott Hamilton Kennedy and representatives from Rubicon's cast of Our Town, for a panel discussion following the 6:00 p.m. screening of the award-winning film today, March 4, at the Century 10 Downtown Theatre, 555 E. Main Street.

Catherine Borek to Join Post-Film Panel for Rubicon Theatre's Screening of OT: OUR TOWN Doc, 3/4

Rubicon Theatre Company today announced that Catherine Borek, star of the documentary 'OT: OUR TOWN,' will join director Scott Hamilton Kennedy and representatives from Rubicon's cast of Our Town, for a panel discussion following the 6:00 p.m. screening of the award-winning film next Monday, March 4, at the Century 10 Downtown Theatre, 555 E. LA Philharmonic Announces 2013/14 New Season

Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and President Deborah Borda today announced the 2013/14 season of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This new season, the Orchestra's 95th, celebrates both the 10th anniversary of the opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall and Gustavo Dudamel's 5th year as Music Director.

Commissions by LA Phil, LA Children's Chorus and American Youth Symphony Nominated for Icelandic Music Awards

Commissions from three leading Los Angeles-based musical organizations have earned noted Icelandic composer Daniel Bjarnason two coveted nominations from the Icelandic Music Awards: Composer of the Year for his 2012 compositions The isle is full of noises, co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Children's Chorus and the American Youth Symphony, and Over Light Earth, commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and Composition of the Year for The isle is full of noises. The works were premiered by the commissioning organizations at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on separate occasions last year. The Icelandic Music Awards are slated for Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Lincoln Center Great Perfomers Series Presents the Los Angeles Philharmonic, 3/27-28

The acclaimed Los Angeles Philharmonic and its dynamic music director, Gustavo Dudamel, return to New York for the first time since 2010 for two concerts at Avery Fisher Hall, as part of Lincoln Center's Great Performers series, March 27 and 28, 2013. Maestro Dudamel and the Orchestra arrive at Lincoln Center with two adventurous programs of 20th and 21st century music which showcases the ensemble's place as one of the world's most forward-thinking orchestras, including the New York premiere of a co-commissioned work by the eminent American composer John Adams.

St. Louis Symphony Announces 2013-2014 Season

Today, the St. Louis Symphony announced its 2013-2014 season, the orchestra's 134th since its founding in 1880 and the ninth led by Music Director David Robertson. The 2013-2014 classical subscription series is sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors and runs from September 20, 2013 through May 11, 2014.
