Ford's Theatre Society Honors President Abraham Lincoln at Annual Gala

Ford's Theatre Society honored the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln at its Annual Gala on Sunday evening, June 4, 2017, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW). For more than 40 years, the Society has hosted this bi-partisan event, which provides crucial support to the non-profit's theatrical and education programs.

Hartford Opera Theater Features Deaf Actress in Copland's THE TENDER LAND

Hartford Opera Theater is pleased to present THE TENDER LAND with music by Aaron Copland, libretto by Horace Everett, as its main stage production. Directed by Kristy Chambrelli with music direction by Joseph Hodge, THE TENDER LAND tells the story of a young girl, who finds herself on the cusp of adulthood and must choose whether to remain in her small town or experience what the world has to offer.

Tony Winner Linda Hopkins Passes Away at 92

BroadwayWord is saddened to report that Linda Hopkins, who won a Tony Award for her performance in Inner City, passed away on April 10. She was 92 years old.

BWW Interview: Director Molly Smith Discusses THE ORIGINALIST at Pasadena Playhouse

Artistic director of Arena Stage in Washington DC Molly Smith directs John Strand's The Originalist about the Supreme Court onstage at the Pasadena Playhouse beginning April 11. The play focuses on a clerkship between a young woman and recently deceased Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia portrayed by Edward Gero. It fits the times to perfection as the two characters spar on a grand scale to defend their interpretation of the truth as written in our constitution. In our chat, Smith talks about the play, its mission, this co-production and also about her work at Arena Stage.

$2.5 Million Donation Fuels Arena Stage's 'Power Plays' Initiative

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announced today that Curtis T. Bell has made a $2.5 million gift towards the theater's ambitious Power Plays initiative. Over the next 10 years, Arena Stage will commission and develop 25 new plays and musicals focused on stories of politics and power. Bell's contribution will be leveraged as a matching gift challenge, ultimately raising an additional $2.5 million to fully fund the Presidential Voices cycle of the initiative.
