Today in 2003 Avenue Q opened at the John Golden Theatre, where it ran for 2534 performances. Avenue Q was conceived by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, who wrote the music and lyrics. The book was written by Jeff Whitty and the show was directed by Jason Moore. Avenue Q is an 'autobiographical and biographical' coming-of-age parable, addressing and satirizing the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood. It opened Off-Broadway in March 2003, co-produced by The New Group and the Vineyard Theatre, and later won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and spawned Las Vegas and West End productions, two national tours, and a variety of international productions.
Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI®), the global leader in music rights management, has announced that the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop is now accepting applications for its first year composer/lyricist class. The August 1, 2015, deadline is quickly approaching and applicants are asked to send in the requested materials as soon as possible. The Workshop begins mid-September 2015, and runs through June 2016. A recipient of the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre Award, the Lehman Engel Musical Workshop consists of approximately 250 composers, lyricists and book writers who are actively writing new works for the musical theatre.

Da es aber ja nicht immer die besten Eigenschaften sind, die mit Wohlstand belohnt werden, sind die Verlierer in der Avenue Q ein Gruppchen außerst liebenswerter Charaktere. Sie traumen davon, ein Star zu sein oder auch nur eine erfolgreiche Kindergartnerin, und vor allem traumen sie von der Liebe. Und die ist in der Avenue Q genauso schon und genauso kompliziert wie anderswo.
