The Dallas Opera is pleased to announce the five darkly dazzling operas that comprise the company's 2011-12 season in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. With opening night on Friday, October 21, 2011, the 55th international season - "Tragic Obsessions" - will showcase compelling works by Donizetti, Janacek, Wagner, Verdi and Mozart, and will include an outstanding Dallas opera-in-concert, important debuts and some of the company's most renowned productions. Each opera will feature the superbly talented Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Opera Chorus and will be performed in its original language, with English translations projected above the stage at every performance. In an evening led by Maestro Marco Armiliato, NYCS will perform the 'Era desso il figlio mio' from Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia, featuring Angela Mead as soloist, the Act III Finale of Ponchielli's La Gioconda and 'Lied der Sylva' from Die Csárdásfürstin by Emmerich Kalman.

Verdi's La Traviata returns to the Met with Angela Gheorghiu reprising her acclaimed interpretation of Violetta, a role the New York Times called a 'supercharged star turn' when she performed it in 2006.

LA TRAVIATA, currently playing at The Metropolitan Opera, will feature Hei-Kyung Hong as Violetta in this evening's performance, replacing Angela Gheorghiu, who is ill.

Steven White, in his Met debut, will conduct the performance of La Traviata on April 7. As previously announced, White will also lead La Traviata on April 10, and Yves Abel will conduct on April 13, 17 matinee, 21, and 24.

Conductor Leonard Slatkin has withdrawn from the remaining performances of La Traviata this season for personal reasons. Marco Armiliato will replace him at the April 3 evening performance, after conducting the matinee of Aida.
