Hilary Bettis & Sheila Callaghan World Premieres Set for New Georges' 25th Anniversary Season

In its 25-year history, New Georges has brought forth an unprecedented generation of women playwrights and directors, providing them with steady artistic support and first or career-transforming productions in New York City. New Georges will celebrate its anniversary season with the World Premiere of Hilary Bettis' Alligator, directed by Elena Araoz, presented in collaboration with The Sol Project this fall, and of Sheila Callaghan and Daniella Topol's collaboratively-created Water at 3LD Art & Technology Center in June of 2017 as part of Water City, a multi-disciplinary art event.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL Opens in Toronto, Tonight!

Starring a cast of acclaimed Canadian musical theatre performers in principal roles and three exciting young talents sharing the title role, MATILDA THE MUSICAL is produced by The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers presented in Toronto by David Mirvish as part of his 2015-16 Main Subscription Season. Performances begin Tuesday July 5 at the Ed Mirvish Theatre, with the media night scheduled forThursday, July 7 at 6:45 PM. Tickets are now available for performances until October 16, 2016.

Photo Flash: BIG DANCE 2016 LAUNCH

Big Dance 2016 was launched yesterday in London's Trafalgar Square by Darcey Bussell, Akram Khan, Big Dance director Jacqueline Rose, Alistair Spalding and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Big Dance Week runs 2 to 10 July 2016 and celebrates a decade of festivals, coming to a close this year. Khan has choreographed a mass dance, which will be performed by hundreds in Trafalgar Square tomorrow, and there are numerous free events, performances, workshops, film screenings and debates, created by and with communities all over London, the UK and internationally. Renaissance House Writer's Retreat to Host Reading of Frederick Douglass Speech, 7/4

Readers of all ages, races and backgrounds are invited by Renaissance House: Retreat for Writers & Artists in Martha's Vineyard to celebrate Independence Day by being a part of one of the most powerful speeches of all time in America --"What Does the Fourth of July Mean to the Negro?" by legendary human rights activist Frederick Douglass taking place at the historic Inkwell Beach in Oak Bluffs on Monday, July 4 at 12:00noon. THE PORTRAIT to Premiere at Greenhouse Theater Center

"The Portrait" will make its world premiere this summer at the Greenhouse Theater Center (2257 N. Lincoln Ave.) as part of the theater's "Solo Celebration!" series, an eight-month series of provocative and powerful solo plays. Written and directed by Susan Padveen, starring Cameron Pfiffner and co-produced with The Neopolitans, "The Portrait" tells the story of Gustav Klimt, the renowned painter of The Kiss, as he wrestles with a life- altering decision while also attempting to secure a sizable commission from a woman of Viennese society. The press performance will be Wednesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m.
