Tony and Grammy Award winner HEATHER HEADLEY just assumed the role of 'Shug Avery' in John Doyle's critically acclaimed production of the Broadway musical, The Color Purple. This is Ms. Headley's first appearance on Broadway since winning the 2000 Tony Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for her performance in Aida. STARS IN THE ALLEY®, presented by United Airlines, will take place on Friday, June 3rd from 12:30pm-2:30pm in Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th Avenue and 44th and 45th Streets.

Just yesterday, THE COLOR PURPLE's Tony Award-winning director John Doyle was joined by some special guests, as Sardi's unveiled his caricature, which joins the historic collection on the restaurant's walls, honoring Broadway's finest for over 85 years. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Grammy and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson will take her final bow as Shug Avery in the acclaimed revival of THE COLOR PURPLE today, May 8th, 2016. This performance marked Hudson's Broadway debut.
