INDECENT, a play by Pulitzer Prize-winner Paula Vogel, created by Ms. Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, and directed by Ms. Taichman, finished its extended run at Broadway's Cort Theatre yesterday with its highest weekly gross of $739,171. INDECENT began previews April 4 and opened April 18. The production played 128 performances and 15 previews.
Winner of two 2017 Tony Awards, Indecent will play its final performance on Broadway on today, August 6 at 3:00 PM at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.) In this 'deeply moral and deeply American play' (The New York Times), Reggie has worked his way up to supervisor at a faltering auto factory. Now he has to decide whether he owes his loyalty to himself, to his bosses, or to long-time family friend Faye and the younger workers on the line, Dez and Shanita. In the spirit of August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle, this third play from Morisseau's Detroit Trilogy explores the hard choices facing Americans barely squeezing by. It was named by the New York Times as 'one of six plays that reckon with an anxious America.'
The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) Free For All, one of the capital's most beloved annual traditions offering free performances of a Shakespearean classic to the general public each summer, will return next month with the Company's 2016 production of William Shakespeare's Othello.
