Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company announces the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's The Totalitarians, a high-energy political comedy. The play explores the vacuous double-speak we invent for political gain and how this language insinuates itself into our everyday lives, relationships, and culture. Nachtrieb's work was last seen at Woolly with Season 29's Boom (2008), which went on to become the most widely produced new play in the country. Woolly Company Member and Andrew W. Mellon Playwright in Residence Robert O'Hara-the playwright and director of Season 31's Bootycandy (2011) and the playwright of Season 29's Helen Hayes Award winning Antebellum (2009)-will direct.

The art world has its panties in a bunch. George Bush has entered some hallowed halls through a side door. Powerful teams of married art writers are reviewing his painted portraits of world leaders he met while playing president. Lady Gaga and Jay-Z were allowed in at the top of the art world for a day. Her pop fame and costumes and his good looks, money and past rap edge were enough to get them in and after all they were already in the music world: that suburb just down the block from the art world. Zimmerman entered the art world through the prison gates, the only pain less prison backdoor I can imagine. But George W Bush came in through a White house back door quite unlike the one JFK slipped in and out of in his day.
Feisty, fiery, tough, unafraid, a force of nature and funny as hell. These are a few of the terms that were used to describe Ann Richards, one of the most charismatic American political figures of the last 30 years.

Unable to see AMERICAN IDIOT in New York City, I am so happy that the Third National Tour finally brought the show to Houston, TX. This lively, youthful cast owns every moment of this explosive and exhilarating AMERICAN IDIOT, and I can't imagine any other cast performing this rollicking, raucous piece as well as they do. Every human on the stage gives this show everything they can, and the end result is something I'll cherish for years to come.
