'Hi de hi de hi de ho!' Charismatic music and dance pioneer Cab Calloway (12-25-1907 - 11-18-94) is an exceptional figure in the history of jazz. As a singer, dancer and bandleader, he charmed audiences around the world with his boundless energy, bravado and elegant showmanship. Calloway was also an ambassador for his race, leading one of the most popular African American big bands during the Harlem Renaissance and jazz and swing eras of the 1930s-40s.

NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT stars two-time Tony Award-winner Matthew Broderick (The Producers, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) and three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara (South Pacific, The Pajama Game) and will be directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes, The Pajama Game).

On March 11, Pace University's inaugural Pace Presents season at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts in Lower Manhattan continues with a cabaret performance by world-renowned soprano Patricia Racette. Racette, a Richard Tucker Award winner and regular presence at major opera houses internationally for over 20 years, has received considerable acclaim for her performances, which the New York Times has described as "deeply affecting and impassioned," with her voice possessing "uncommon richness, expressivity and honesty."

Today in 1992, Crazy for You opened at the Shubert Theatre, where it ran for 1622 performances. Crazy for You is a musical with a book by Ken Ludwig, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and music by George Gershwin. Billed as 'The New Gershwin Musical Comedy', it is largely based on the songwriting team's 1930 musical, Girl Crazy, but interpolates songs from several other productions as well. Crazy for You won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical. The Broadway production was directed by Mike Ockrent and choreographed by Susan Stroman.The cast included Jodi Benson as Polly, Harry Groener as Bobby Child, Bruce Adler as Bela Zangler, John Hillner as Lank Hawkins, Michele Pawk as Irene Roth, Jane Connell as Mother, and Beth Leavel as Tess.

The third and final performance of the LA Phil LIVE second season will feature world-renowned Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil with jazz legend Herbie Hancock for a celebration of quintessential American composer George Gershwin on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern. LA Phil LIVE: Gustavo Dudamel and Herbie Hancock Celebrate Gershwin, pre-recorded from the LA Phil's 2011-12 season Opening Night Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, includes some of the composer's best-loved works including the Cuban Overture, An American in Paris, and Rhapsody in Blue, as well as intimate solo improvisations by Hancock on Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me. The event also features exclusive footage of Hancock - the LA Phil's Creative Chair for Jazz - in his home, playing Gershwin and providing insights into his improvisational process.

George Gershwin's 'American folk opera,' Porgy and Bess, premiered in New York City in the fall of 1935, one year after the opening of The Apollo Theater. Both the play, and the theater, became icons within African-American culture. So it's only fitting, and perhaps overdue, that they would eventually join forces.
