Porgy and Bess is an opera which, in the past, has predominantly been set in the 'Deep South', or more specifically South Carolina; highlighting African-American life in the 1920's. Cape Town Opera (CTO), on the other hand, have chosen a different approach and decided that strong parallels could be drawn between the original concept and South African urban life in the 1970's.

Caramoor CEO and General Director Michael Barrett will lead the Orchestra of St. Luke's in a celebratory program of "Pops, Patriots and Fireworks" on Wednesday, July 4, at 8:00 PM in the Venetian Theater. Hosted by Jamie Bernstein, the program highlights George Gershwin's greatest works to commemorate America's Independence Day. Guest pianist John Musto will perform Rhapsody in Blue, and many of Gershwin's hit songs will be sung by Darius de Haas and Carla Jablonski. A dazzling pyrotechnic fireworks display will follow the patriotic festivities.

North Carolina Symphony Music Director Grant Llewellyn leads the orchestra and featured pianist Clara Yang in "Rhapsody in Blue" in a special Sunday concert during this summer's Rex Healthcare Summerfest Series.

The stars are out for an evening of musical enchantment, sharing songs by the writers who have most inspired them from George Gershwin to Paul McCartney. Featuring one of the leading champions of the Great American Songbook and "the singer who stills the room": Tony-nominated Broadway star Ann Hampton Callaway (SWING!), this one-night-only concert will also include performances from Tony-nominated composer and lyricist Craig Carnelia, Grammy-nominated composer and lyricist Andrew Lippa, Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Lari White, emerging songwriters from the 2012 Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project and an appearance by the great Johnny Mercer himself through audio and video recollections where he reveals the writers who most inspired his prolific career.

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) announces its 33rd summer residency at Caramoor International Music Festival. OSL will open Caramoor's season on June 23, 2012 with an all-Mendelssohn concert led by Italian maestro Roberto Abbado. The program includes A Midsummer Night's Dream narrated by Tony Award-winner Bebe Neuwirth and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor featuring violin virtuoso Gil Shaham.

The Tony-nominated Best Musical NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT just recorded an Original Broadway Cast album and we have the Exclusive behind-the-scene shots, along with backstage photos of a recent performance! Factory label to be distributed by Sony. The album was recorded at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Long Island City, NY on May 20th and 21st. The release date will be announced soon. Musicals Tonight has announced that its upcoming season will include the following shows.

The New York Youth Symphony's Jazz Band Classic concludes its tenth season tonight, May 23, 2009, at 7:30pm with "Sounds From The City," featuring soloist Ann Hampton Callaway at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Under the direction of Matt Holman, director, the group will perform songs from New York City with music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Frank Sinatra, as well as a big band salute to Broadway. The Adjacent Possible by Evan Weiss, commissioned through the New York Youth Symphony's acclaimed First Music program, will receive its world premiere.

Recently, conductor Keith Lockhart was joined by Bernadette Peters to present the schedule for the Boston Pops' Spring 2012 season. Peters was the guest during the Opening Night concert at Boston's beautiful Symphony Hall. As stellar as she is, Peters is only one of the sensational artists who have been scheduled to appear with the Boston Pops which is celebrating its 127th season. On June 5th, 6th and 7th, Broadway's Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley will perform "A Tribute to Cole Porter". American Idol's Melinda Doolittle will join Gospel singer Crystal Aitkin and Charles Floyd for the 20th Gospel Night Celebration on June 9th. Although many people know Steve Martin as a comic actor and playwright, he is also a very serious musician who will be bringing his bluegrass band, The Steep Canyon Rangers, to play with the Pops on May 29th and 30th. Anne Hampton Callaway, who is one of the premier interpreters of the American Songbook will bring her unique stylings to what is being billed as "The Barbra Streisand Songbook" on May 15th and 16th. Singer Maureen McGovern will join the Pops to sing selections from her Broadway show LITTLE WOMEN as a tribute to the novel's author Louisa May Alcott.

To close out the 2012 season of 92nd Street Y's Lyrics & Lyricists, Rex Reed pays tribute to the studio that gave us such iconic movie musicals as 42nd Street, Yankee Doodle Dandy, A Star is Born and My Fair Lady.

Matthew Broderick, star of Broadway's NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, was a guest on last night's 'Watch What Happens Live' on Bravo. While playing host Andy Cohen's favorite game of 'Plead the Fifth', Broderick revealed his most embarrassing moment on the Broadway stage.

Following the success of last year's recording of Gershwin's Piano Concerto and Rhapsody in Blue, conductor Riccardo Chailly and pianist Stefano Bollani return with an album of jazz-inspired classical works, including two world-premiere recordings. The album, which was recorded live at the Gewandhaus, Leipzig, is set for release today, May 22, 2012.

The Birmingham Hippodrome today announced full season information for its forthcoming 2012/13 season, which includes Cape Town Opera's PORGY AND BESS and Cameron Mackintosh's new production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE KING AND I, WONDERFUL TOWN, DIRTY DANCING, SISTER ACT and BLOOD BROTHERS.
