Opus Two to Celebrate George Gershwin at the New York Public Library, 12/28

Champions of American music for more than a decade, Opus Two violin-piano duo presents a multi-media program of the inimitable works of George Gershwin (1898-1937), one of Americas most popular and iconic composers. Violinist William Terwilliger and pianist Andrew Cooperstock will explore Gershwin's many musical styles, from the jazz influenced An American in Paris to the quintessential folk opera Porgy and Bess. They will also perform I Got Rhythm, Embraceable You, and But Not for Me…. in colorful and virtuosic transcriptions by legendary violinist Jascha Heifetz along with brand-new Opus Two commissions by esteemed Broadway music director Eric Stern. Projected images by African-American period photographer Richard Samuel Roberts and entertaining video clips of Judy Garland and Gene Kelly will round out the program. The concert will be held at the Bruno Walter Auditorium onSaturday, December 28 at 2:30pm.

Los Altos, CA, November 22, 2013 – With a signature flair for programming and a nod to three of history's great jazz artists who are equally at home in the symphonic scene, Music Director and conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein has programmed an evening of music by Bay Area composer/pianist Taylor Eigsti and his artistic predecessors Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin in two performances January 17 and 18. The program includes the world premieres of new works by Bay Area native and internationally recognized jazz artist Taylor Eigsti along with Eigsti performing Gershwin's game-changing Rhapsody in Blue and a special tribute to late Bay Area composer/pianist and jazz innovator Dave Brubeck in works to be announced featuring Eigsti and saxophonist Dayna Stephens. Rounding out the evening will be Gershwin's overtures to Girl Crazy and Strike Up the Band. The concert will be given Friday, Janaury 17, at 8 pm at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and Saturday, January 18, at 8 pm at Flint Center/DeAnza College. San Francisco audiences were delighted to welcome a powerful and wistfully evocative production of The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess to the bay area and to the stage of the Golden Gate Theatre where it plays now through December 8. Opening night was also the launch of the much anticipated national tour of this Tony award-winning revival. The Cowardly Scarecrow Theatre Company, INC has announced the craziest performance in Musical of the Living Dead history - Two casts in the same performance - Musical of the Living Dead: Double Tap. For the closing performance on Saturday, Nov. 9 every single cast member (a total of 22 actors) will perform, adding a unique element to the performance: 'tapping' each other in and out in a tag team fashion throughout the show to create the ULTIMATE Musical of the Living Dead experience. To add to the madness, more than one actor might perform the same song or scene...simultaneously. The audience could see two Frans, one Steve, Judy give birth to herself - or even cameos by the show's creators, Marc Lewallen and Brand Younts. Anything could happen in this not-to-be-missed performance.
