Freestyle Digital Media (FDM) announced that they have acquired all digital rights to director Rocky Powell's charming romantic comedy LANGUAGE OF A BROKEN HEART, which was written by and stars Juddy Talt. The film also stars Julie White (TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN), Kate French ('One Tree Hill'), Ethan Cohen (ALICE IN WONDERLAND), Oscar Nunez (THE PROPOSAL) and Lara Pulver ('True Blood') and was produced by Powell, Luke Coffee, Jennifer Beasley and executive produced by Kerry McCluggage. The film was released by Indie Distributor, House Lights Media, in 10 markets in the U.S. and Canada in March including New York and Los Angeles, reaching top 10 per screen averages for multiple weeks. LANGUAGE OF A BROKEN HEART was released on VOD and DVD on October 1st, 2013.

Primary Stages has announced that Richard Topol (Broadway's The Normal Heart, The Merchant of Venice) will assume the role of Yogi Berra in their World Premiere production of Bronx Bombers, written and directed by Tony Award nominee Eric Simonson (Broadway's Lombardi). Due to artistic differences, Joe Pantoliano, initially announced to play the role of Yogi Berra, will not continue with the production. The production has delayed its first performance to tonight, September 20. Opening night remains scheduled for October 8 at 7pm. Bronx Bombers runs through October 19 at Primary Stages at The Duke on 42nd Street.

The film introduces Cameron Fife and Tyler McGee, who also co-wrote the script, and includes Katrina Bowden (“30 Rock,” AMERICAN REUNION), Kelen Coleman (“The Mindy Project,” “The Newsroom”), Keith Loneker (LAKEVIEW TERRACE) and Jon Gries (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE). The film was produced by Goodwin, Fife and McGee, and is slated for a multiple platform VOD release prior to the national theatrical roll out on September 20th, 2013.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for Charles Randolph-Wright's world premiere drama Love in Afghanistan. Randolph-Wright, a Resident Playwright through Arena Stage's American Voices New Play Institute and director of Motown the Musical currently on Broadway, joins forces with director Lucie Tiberghien (MCC Theater's Don't Go Gentle) to bring to life the tale of two fantastically different people discovering love in the most unlikely of places: war-torn Afghanistan. One, an emerging hip-hop artist, the other, a high-level Afghan interpreter, both fight to navigate the pitfalls of romance, religious differences and political unrest. Love in Afghanistan runs October 11-November 17, 2013 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
The 5th Annual Boston Comedy Arts Festival heats up tonight, September 7 at 8 p.m., as Kids in the Hall member Kevin McDonald headlines a strong bill at the Brattle Theatre.
