Photo Coverage: CHESS Opens at Signature - Official Production Shots!

Chess, the rock musical by the composers of Mamma Mia!, opened at Signature Theatre on August 10, 2010 and plays a limited run through September 26. The first major American production in almost 20 years-and the Washington region's very first professional production-stars Broadway's Jill Paice (Curtains), Euan Morton (Boy George in Taboo), and Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose) in the Russian/American conflict made new again. Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Million Dollar Quartet) and his creative team capture the gritty, sexy world of Chess' 1985 radio hit 'One Night in Bangkok' in the amazing intimacy of Signature's 276-seat MAX Theatre. The Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre has a national reputation for its work with musicals - polishing underappreciated gems, as well as producing world premieres and reinventing classics. Freddie Company Presents FREDDIE THE LEAF 8/13-15

Freddie Company in association with TKO Entertainment proudly presents the U.S. Premiere of the Japanese musical Freddie the Leaf, written and directed by Takashi Inuishi, conceived by Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara, with music and lyrics by Shoichi Tama and starring popular Japanese film actor, Akira Takarada, and a cast of 21 Japanese teens and children. Freddie the Leaf runs from August 13 - 15, 2010 in a limited engagement at John Jay College's Gerald W. Lynch Theater, located at 899 Tenth Avenue, between 58 and 59 Streets, in NYC. The show officially opens on August 13.

Queens Corona Youth Music Program Runs 8/9-20

The Corona Youth Music Project (CYMP or Núcleo Corona) is part of a network of people to create social change and music development for children regardless of resources and hopes to transform this Queens neighborhood by establishing a special camp for hundreds of children this summer to use music to empower them to change their lives. The camp will be held at the Louis Armstrong Recreation Center on August 9th - 20th. It will culminate with a free concert on August 21 outside the Queens Museum of Art for the entire community. The camp is free.

Directors And Writers Chosen For INTERNATIONAL CRINGEFEST '10, Opens 7/19-8/8

Wildhorn's WONDERLAND Heads to Broadway Apr. 17, 2011; Gregory Boyd Directs

WONDERLAND: A New Alice. A New Musical Adventure will open on Broadway Sunday, April 17, 2011 and performances will begin Monday, March 21, at a Nederlander theatre to be announced. The musical will be directed by Gregory Boyd, the artistic director of the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, with a book by Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy (The Civil War -Tony nomination) and lyrics by Jack Murphy, music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde - Grammy nomination, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Civil War - Tony nomination, Dracula, Victor/Victoria) and choreography by Marguerite Derricks (Fame, Emmy Awards for '3rd Rock From The Sun' and 'Fame LA'). WONDERLAND: A New Alice. A New Musical Adventure will play a pre-Broadway engagement at the Ferguson Hall at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts (Judy Lisi, President and CEO) in Tampa, Florida January 4 through January 16, 2011.

National Jazz Museum Harlem Announces August Schedule

The National Jazz Museum in Harlem announces its August 2010 Schedule. This month of public programs presented by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem features retrospectives (Louis Armstrong and Hank Jones), discussions with two of the most prominent and influential contemporary saxophonists (Joe Lovano and Steve Coleman) as well as a talk with top jazz journalist Bill Milkowski, and live performances that riff on the connection between visual art and jazz, by trumpeter Marcus Printup and trombonist Ryan Keberle at the Rubin Museum of Art, and the NJMH All Stars at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Actor's Express Names Next Managing Director

The Board of Directors of Actor's Express is pleased to announce that Lara Smith will join the theatre as Managing Director. Lara replaces current Managing Director Scott Clodfelter, who is moving to Chicago. She will leave her current position of Development Director at Atlanta's highly respected Dad's Garage Theatre Company to begin her new role at Actor's Express on August 1.
