On Monday night Christine Pedi will be receiving a New York Nightlife Award for Great Dames, her 2007 salute to notable ladies of the stage and screen. But as award-worthy as that cabaret show was, her latest, Now I Have Everything: The Lyrics of Sheldon Harnick, is even better. This is a master class in musical theatre acting and a heck of an entertaining night out.

The Palace Theatre.  An engagement to appear before an audience at that aptly named showplace, where the kings and queens of vaudeville would hold court on a 2-a-day schedule, was once the Holy Grail of show business.  'Playing The Palace' was the dream of every vaudeville performer and the term is still used today to describe someone who has reached the top of their profession.  And for those who headlined at The Palace… Well, having top billing at The Palace used to mean that you were among the best stage performers that American entertainment had to offer.

The American Musicals Project (AMP), a creative educational curriculum that promotes the study of history and English through musical theater to seventh and eighth grade students, presents a month-full of marvelous show tune and concerts, featuring the best of Broadway actors and veterans. If ever there were a time to make a strong argument in support of public broadcast television, today would be the day, as the vultures are circling. With government funding getting slashed quicker than George Bush's approval ratings can drop, and The New York Times posing questions like, 'is PBS still necessary?' perhaps only Stephen Sondheim can mount a worthy fight. Theater for the New City held its fifth annual 'Love 'n' Courage' gala - hosted by Elaine Stritch, with guest including Edward Albee, Bill Irwin, Marian Seldes, Eli Wallach, Anne Jackson and singer/songwriter Amanda Green - on Sunday February 10 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South) in New York City.

Stage vet Alvin Epstein is set to star as Prospero in the Actors' Shakespeare Project's production of William Sheakespeare's The Tempest at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, March 13-April 13. This production will be directed by Patrick Swanson and designed by David R. Gammons.
