Movement Invention Project Announces Francesca Harper as New Artistic Director

New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble (NJDTE) announces Francesca Harper, past member of Dance Theatre of Harlem, former principal dancer of William Forsythe's Frankfurt Ballet, and Broadway veteran, as the new director of the cutting-edge summer dance program Movement Invention Project (MIP).

The Masterworks Redefined - New York series will showcase the energetic dance artistry of the repertory dance company that is turning 40 in its 2016-2017 season. The National Endowment for the Arts designated Dallas Black Dance Theatre as an 'American Masterpiece Touring Artist.'

In a quaint studio theater at 74th Street and Broadway, Steps Beyond hosted a legendary affair, likened to the historic backdrop that inspired The Look of Feeling. Gaudy uptown apartments spilled light into the stripped down set as artistic director Bradley Shelver greeted guests with palms clasped, smiling genuinely. The intimate air was as welcoming as a friend hosting new guests.

Acclaimed dancer/choreographer Francesca Harper will perform her solo dance/theater work, 'The Look of Feeling,' a tribute to her mother, American dance pioneer Denise Jefferson, November 16, 7:30 PM, at Steps on Broadway. The very personal work will be narrated by Hope Clarke, noted dancer/actress/Broadway and film performer, Outer Circle Critics Award and Tony Award winner. Harper recounts her family's flight from Coffeeville, Mississippi, to her mother's legacy as founding Director of The Ailey School at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and a major figure on the New York dance scene.

Bennett Rink Named Alvin Ailey Executive Director

The Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation today announced that after an international search to identify a new Executive Director, the Board of Trustees has chosen to continue the Ailey tradition of passing on leadership from one generation of the organization to the next by naming Bennett Rink to the post. Mr. Rink, Ailey's current Senior Director of Development and External Affairs, will succeed Sharon Gersten Luckman, who hired him in 1994, and who announced at the beginning of 2012 that she would step aside as Executive Director at the beginning of 2013.
