Deborah Voigt to Sing in Liege, 2/22-3/5; Play 'Brunnhilde' in the Met's RING, 4/13-5/11
by BWW News Desk - Feb 22, 2013

Soprano Deborah Voigt has embodied Puccini's "Golden Girl" - the pistol-packing, poker-playing barmaid Minnie, one of her favorite roles - in productions of La fanciulla del West from San Francisco to Chicago to New York over the past few seasons, including the centennial revival of the work at the Metropolitan Opera in 2010. Voigt reprises her Minnie at Opera Royal de Liege in Belgium from February 22 to March 5. The soprano resumes another of her all-time favorite roles, Wagner's Brunnhilde, in Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung from April 13 to May 11 at the Metropolitan Opera, in Robert Lepage's production of the Ring cycle. Later in May, Voigt makes her performance debut in China with orchestral concerts in Beijing and Shanghai.

Lincoln Center to Welcome Lindsay Mendez and Marco Paguia in AMERICAN SONGBOOK IN THE PENTHOUSE, 3/29-30
by BWW News Desk - Feb 22, 2013

Now in its 15th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook celebrates the best in American singing and songwriting with a new chapter in the Songbook story: 'American Songbook in the Penthouse,' a series of weekend-only performances by performers and composers presented in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, an intimate yet elegant venue that brings artists closer to the audience in a cabaret-style setting. 'American Songbook in the Penthouse' embraces adventuresome performers and celebrates composers and lyricists, both newer and veteran. With a seating capacity of just 225, the Kaplan Penthouse allows acoustic performers to be heard the way they intend - near to the audience and without elaborate amplification. The size of the space also allows performers to interact with their audience to make them an integral part of their performance, something difficult to do in a larger, more formal venue.
