BWW Reviews: Thoroughly Thrilled with Imagine's MILLIE

Those who have never seen THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE before should be very careful when they attend Imagine Production's version of the two-act musical. In her directorial debut with Imagine, director/choreographer Rose Babington has together a show that future MILLIE productions will have a hard time topping.

Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount from Kansas who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East; her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage; and the man she actually falls in love with does not have a dime to his name -or so he tells her.

NBC Universo Premieres Mexican Series EL SEXO DEBIL Tonight

NBC UNIVERSO, the modern sports and entertainment cable channel for Latinos, today announced the premiere of El Sexo Débil, the provocative Mexican series that will air for the first time on a cable network in the U.S., beginning tonight, July 6, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Classical Theatre of Harlem's THE TEMPEST Begins Tonight

The 15th anniversary season of The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director; David Roberts, Managing Director) continues with CTH's free, summer, uptown production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, presented in partnership with City Parks Foundation's SummerStage festival. The Carl Cofield-directed production, which stars New York theater and Broadway veteran Ron Cephas Jones, will transform the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park into an enchanted Caribbean island where the magic takes flight, with an elaborate aerial design elements planned. The third annual CTH Under the Stars presentation holds previews tonight, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run from July 5 through 26.

Playhouse on Park Now Casting for Season 7

Award-winning professional theatre Playhouse on Park is now casting for its upcoming seventh season. Local auditions will be held at the Playhouse on August 30th and 31st, and NYC auditions will be held on July 10th and 11th.    

Updated: Rumored Stratford Festival Season Not Confirmed With Rights Holders or Board

It has been reported in The Toronto Star that A CHORUS LINE and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC will both play The Stratford Festival next season. Both Broadway musicals first appeared on Broadway in the 1970s and will surely make a splash at the festival next season. A Chorus Line will play on the Festival Stage and A Little Night Music will be at the Avon Theatre.

STUPID F$#@ING BIRD to Play Victory Gardens, 7/23-8/30

Carlisle Hart, LLC presents Sideshow Theatre Company, Chicago's preeminent theater company for presenting familiar stories in unorthodox ways, in a commercial remount of their wildly successful, sold-out smash hit production of STUPID f**kING BIRD. Aaron Posner's comic spin on Chekhov's The Seagull is directed by artistic director Jonathan L. Green, from July 23 through August 30, 2015 with Press Opening Saturday, July 25 at 7:30pm at Victory Gardens Zacek McVay Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago.

HAPPY50ISH! Begins Next Month Off-Broadway

HAPPY50ish!, the mid-life crisis musical comedy will have its Off-Broadway premiere beginning Wednesday, July 15 at The Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street) on Theatre Row. Created by Lynn Shore, Mark Vogel and David Burnham, and directed and choreographed by Paul Stancato, HAPPY 50ish! opens Sunday, July 26.  Previews run from July 15 through July 25 and the show will play a limited engagement through August 30. Performances are scheduled for Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. with matinees on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $69.50 - $99.50 and are available through Telecharge at (212) 239-6200 or www.Telecharge.com.

CARMEN to Play Dante Hall Theater of Stockton University, 7/31-8/1

Carmen, one of the most well-known and beloved operas of all time, will be performed at the historic Dante Hall Theater of Stockton University in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday, July 31 at 8:00 PM and on Saturday, August 1 at 2:00 PM. Produced by The Secret Opera, a young and flourishing opera company, Carmen will be performed fully staged with a chamber orchestra, and will present a new and thought-provoking interpretation of the traditional story of the seductive gypsy, Carmen, and her fateful affair with the jealous soldier, Don José.
