Amphibian Stage Adds 'STREETCAR,' SKYLIGHT & More National Theatre Live Screenings to Season

Amphibian Stage Productions today announced newly released screenings of National Theatre Live through early spring 2015, presented in association with the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Star-studded productions of A Streetcar Named Desire, Medea, Skylight, an encore screening of Frankenstein starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, John and Treasure Island will follow the previously-announced screenings of A Small Family Business and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

David Binder has just announced an international broadcast of the critically-acclaimed, smash-hit revival of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men will be the first Broadway show filmed by National Theatre Live. Starring Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner James Franco, BAFTA and Tony Award nominee Chris O'Dowd, Leighton Meester and Tony and Olivier Award winner Jim Norton, and directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro, Of Mice and Men will be filmed at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48 Street) and distributed by National Theatre Live. Screening dates for Of Mice and Men will be announced shortly.

HOME, the organisation formed by the merger of Manchester's Library Theatre Company and Cornerhouse, will follow up their critically acclaimed sold-out production of Angel Meadow with a spectacular site-specific production of Shakespeare's romantic tragedy Romeo & Juliet in Manchester's historic Victoria Baths in September 2014 (http://homemcr.org/romeo-and-juliet), the building which won BBC1's first Restoration programme in 2003.

Frankenstein enjoyed a sell-out run at the National Theatre, and went on to win awards including the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. Is network news appointment television for you? I didn't think so. Are you constantly angered that ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT only talks about theatre when a Hollywood star joins a cast or someone falls 30 feet to the stage floor? Me too. Well, I have an alternative that just might satisfy your news and theatre cravings; podcasting. Isn't that just what hipsters do between their shift at Starbucks and another trip to the thrift shop? Well, yes and no. I'm sure there is a barista in Portland who is currently recording a missive bemoaning mass media's attempt to co-opt the indie subculture, but most people who do podcasts well are incredibly informed and passionate about their specific topics.

Today the Donmar Warehouse announced the full cast of Fathers and Sons, by Brian Friel, after the novel by Ivan Turgenev. Directed by Olivier Award-winner Lyndsey Turner - who returns to the Donmar having previously directed Friel's Philadelphia, Here I Come! in 2012 - Turgenev's masterpiece reveals a new world in conflict with the old, the uneasiness of clashing generations and the difficulty of staying radical as you move through life.

BBC Two recently announced that it will air three filmed adaptations of Shakespeare's History plays including a new version of Richard III. Today, BBC Two confirmed on its Twitter feed that actor Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the role of the titular king.

According to the Daily Mail, Benedict Cumberbatch as solidified his place as Hamlet in the West End. The Shakespearean drama will run at the Barbican Theatre, beginning in August 2015 and will be produced by Sonia Friedman and directed by Lyndsey Turner.
