Deadline.com reports that a deal is now in place for Belle Pictures and the Mark Gordon Company to head a film adaption of Memphis at Warner Brother's Aclon Entertainment. The film will be produced by Mark Gordon, Molly Smith and Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson with a new script by Tony-winner Joe DiPietro.

The Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire was awarded the Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2011-2012 Season from Actors' Equity Association (AEA) on Tuesday. The show, produced by Front Row Productions (Stephen Byrd, Alia Jones-Harvey), received the honor at a presentation at Equity headquarters. Christine Toy Johnson and Julia Breanetta Simpson (AEA Co-chairs Eastern Regional Equal Employment Opportunity Committee) presented the award, which turns the spotlight onto those doing exemplary work to promote the goals of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity in theatre. Yesterday, July 10, cast members from DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST were the special guest readers at Story Time in the Children's Library in the Family Centre at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. Cast members Lauren Palmeri and Andrew Betz read from the traditional fairy tale 'Beauty and the Beast' to patients in the Children's Library. The reading was also streamed live into patient rooms throughout the hospital. See below for a photo of the cast members at the event!

Actors' Equity Association (Equity) announced today that the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE has been selected as the recipient of its Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2011-2012 Season. The Diversity Award will be presented at a reception prior to Equity's National Council Meeting at the Equity headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 12:30PM EST.

Beauty and the Beast opened Thursday night in Toronto, becoming the second to last show that Dancap Productions will produce in Toronto before closing up shop after five years. BWW was on hand to capture photos of the opening night.
