Kathie Lee Gifford will host the 2nd Annual National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) on Monday, June 28 at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway). The NHSMTA is a national celebration of outstanding student achievement recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance by high school students. Last night, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences discussed the possible decision, one that would cause the Oscars® to precede the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and BAFTA Awards ceremonies.

Academy Award®-winning producer Bruce Cohen and acclaimed television producer/director Don Mischer will produce the 83rd Academy Awards telecast, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak announced this evening. Mischer will also serve as the telecast's director.

If true, this would be the second big announcement surrounding the show, which is being filmed at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on June 25th for an HBO documentary feature, BroadwayWorld learned today.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Carrie Fisher will perform her Wishful Drinking at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) June 25 & 26. Today, BroadwayWorld has learned that the June 25 performance will be filmed live for television as a feature-length documentary by HBO and World of Wonder Productions. The special will combine elements of her one-woman stage performance, taped before the live audience at SOPAC, with archival footage and interviews with friends and family.

Broadway leading man Michael Arden made the West Coast debut of his 'Blue' concert this past weekend with two sold out evenings at Upright Cabaret in Los Angeles.

Wishful Drinking at Broadway's Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street) celebrated its official opening last night, Sunday, October 4th, 2009. BroadwayWorld.com's cameras captured the celebrated crowd as they arrived to cheer Carrie Fisher on!

The production played 3 nights - July 31, August 1 and August 2 to cheering crowds, but the crazy part is - the final dress is done at 10am, in broad daylight and is open to the public, as the venue is a county-owned facility. People showed up in droves, for the run-through and cheered on the actors, the Hollywood Bowl orchestra and conductor Kevin Stites, who you will see is wearing a black, casual shirt for the rehearsal. The show's director, Richard Jay-Alexander, made a brief speech before the run, welcoming everybody, and in this exclusive footage, I was also able to catch him, in his dressing room, before the Opening Night performance.

The Jimmy Award is named in honor of legendary Broadway theater owner and producer James M. Nederlander. The award features an illustration of James M. Nederlander drawn by world renowned artist Al Hirschfeld.
