Showcasing the very best in jazz this summer, the TD Toronto Jazz Festival runs from June 23rd to July 2nd, 2017. In its 31st year, the festival includes performances from more than 1500 musicians and over 100 free concerts in Yorkville across 10 days. Headliners for this year's festival include Aretha Franklin, Joss Stone, Mavis Staples, Randy Bachman, Caravan Palace and more.
Cyrus Chestnut & Tavis Smiley to Perform at the Abyssinian Baptist Church

On Good Friday, April 14, 2017, 7:30 PM at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in the City of New York, jazz pianist/Howard University professor, Cyrus Chestnut, will perform a powerful composition that he especially wrote for the church, entitled "The Saga of the Cross." This exciting celebration of Good Friday will feature a jazz trio, the Abyssinian Baptist Church choir, conducted by James Davis Jr., and will be narrated by Tavis Smiley. Concert proceeds will benefit the AbyWest campaign for the church's construction of a new Education and Cultural Center.

Chestnut's idea to connect between Elvis and Jazz is based on the Blues, Country and Gospel influences that are evident in Elvis's music. Presley's greatest hits receive exceptional interpretations by Chestnut who is known by his Jazz, Gospel and Bop styled improvisation skills – ones which he acquired throughout the years in which he played in church as a child. He believes that Jazz is a religious musical genre.

Jazz Women of New York is a new all-woman band conceived by vocalist Lee Torchia. The core group is pianist Jill McManus, bassist Melissa Slocum, drummer Sylvia Cuenca, flutist Andrea Brachfeld, and saxophonist Carol Sudhalter, with occasional subs from the female side of NY jazz.

Antonio Hart has been long recognized as one of the most talented instrumentalists of his generation. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Hart began his music studies with classical training at the Baltimore School for the Arts. His study of Jazz began at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where in his sophomore year he became a Music Education Major. Afterwards, Hart also worked on a Master's Degree at Queens College, majoring in music, composition and performance. There he had the opportunity to learn from the great Jimmy Heath and Donald Byrd. After 12 years at Queens College Hart was promoted to Full Professor.
