Sonnet Repertory Theatre Presents THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, Beginning 8/9

Sonnet Repertory Theatre celebrates a decade of producing classic theatre for the modern planet with a world-premiere adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Michael Raver, directed by Quin Gordon. The Picture of Dorian Gray will begin performances on Thursday, August 9, with an official opening slated for Friday, August 10, at The Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

FRIED CHICKEN AND LATKES Begins Off-Broadway, 7/21

Edmund Gaynes in association with Daryl Sledge/Mother's Boy LLC will present the Off-Broadway premiere of Rain Pryor's one-woman show, Fried Chicken and Latkes, beginning an open-ended engagement on Saturday July 21st at the Actors Temple Theater (339 West 47th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). The show runs 70 minutes.

Culture Project Presents IMPACT 2012 Festival, 7/14-8/26

Culture Project Artistic Director and Founder Allan Buchman announces today IMPACT 2012, a festival focusing on human rights, social justice, and political action. Patti Murin and Hinton Battle Among Planet Connections Theatre Festivity Awards Nominees; Ceremony 7/29

The nominations have been announced for the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity's 2012 Awards Gala, taking place on Sunday, July 29 at 7:30pm at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (405 W. 55th Street). Among the nominees are three-time Tony Award-winner Hinton Battle (for directing & choreographing What We Do for Love or Other Desperate Measures) and recent Tony Award-nominee Patti Murin (for her performance in La Strega).

Pride Film & Plays Concludes Summer with THE ALL AMERICAN GENDERF*CK CABARET, 8/10 - 9/1

Pride Films and Plays continues its very fun summer with one repeating event and a Chicago premiere. PFP's second annual Women's Work Weekend will feature enhanced staged readings of new lesbian plays and screenplays by women writers from across the country. And that will be closely followed by Mariah MacCarthy's delightful comedy spoofing all things gender-centric: The All-American Genderf*ck Cabaret, directed by Tara Branham.

Burning Coal Hosts APPROACHES TO DEVISED THEATRE Workshop, 6/30

Burning Coal Theatre Company will present a workshop for actors and directors on' Approaches to Devised Theatre' on Saturday, June 30th from noon to 4 pm at the Murphey School Auditorium, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC. The instructor, Anna Jones, hails from London, England and has worked extensively there and in New York City. The workshop fee is $25. Registration at 919-834-4001.

Presentations of Page 73 Productions' developmental workshop of A THICK DESCRIPTION OF HARRY SMITH (Volume I) by Chicago-based playwright Carlos Murillo (DARK PLAY OR STORIES FOR BOYS) and directed by Kip Fagan (Page 73's JACK'S PRECIOUS MOMENT) will begin Thursday, June 28 at 2pm and continue Friday, June 29 at 2pm; Sunday, July 1 at 7pm and Monday, July 2 at 3pm (please note the altered performance time for the July 2nd performance) at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street). Working Theater Presents THE BEST OF THEATERWORKS: STORIES FROM THE 99%, Now thru 6/17

Working Theater presents the Off-Broadway production of The Best of TheaterWorks!: Stories from the 99%. The production will feature six of the best short plays to come out of Working Theater's TheaterWorks! program. The 10-year old program teaches working men and women (bus drivers, doormen, 911 operators, DMV workers etc.) to write and perform their own short plays about their experiences at work. The classes end with a stage reading style performance where the students are teamed with professional actors and directors. This production however will be fully realized by a professional cast and crew.

Off-Broadway's Page 73 Productions will present its first "Page 2" presentation of 2012 - a developmental workshop of A THICK DESCRIPTION OF HARRY SMITH (Volume I) by Chicago-based playwright Carlos Murillo (DARK PLAY OR STORIES FOR BOYS) and directed by Kip Fagan (Page 73's JACK'S PRECIOUS MOMENT), with performances June 28 through July 2 at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street), it has been announced by Page 73's Executive Directors Liz Jones and Asher Richelli.

Abigail Disney, Kathy Najimy, et al. to Take Part in TRAFFICKED Talkback, 6/10

Feminist, writer and activist Gloria Steinem, author, filmmaker and photographer Nigel Barker, actress Kathy Najimy and filmmaker Abigail Disney are all set to take part in after-show talkbacks for the powerful docu-theater drama Trafficked which was constructed by actual interviews and was created in partnership with representatives from the United Nations, telling the story of sex slavery and child exploitation through the eyes of fifteen young women across the globe. Abigail Disney will lead a talkback after the Sunday, 6/10 at 5:30pm performance, Gloria Steinem and Kathy Najimy will both lead the talkback after the Saturday, 6/16 at 4:30pm performance, and Nigel Barker will lead the talkback after the 6/21 at 5pm performance. Lameece Issaq's FOOD AND FADWA Opens at New York Theatre Workshop Tonight, 6/7

New York Theatre Workshop world premiere production of Food and Fadwa, written by Lameece Issaq and Jacob Kader, and directed by Shana Gold, opens officially tonight, June 7 at NYTW. Food and Fadwa is a co-production with Noor Theatre, a company-in-residence at New York Theatre Workshop.

UglyRhino's TINYRHINO: JULY EDITION Set for 7/16

TinyRhino is UglyRhino's take on the ten-minute play evening. Each month we commission six short plays each including the same five dramatic elements. On the night of the performance, these elements are revealed to the audience as cues to drink. That's right: we've created a theatrical drinking game!

Planet Connections Theatre Festivity Kicks Off May 30

From May 30th through June 24th the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, New York's premiere eco-friendly/socially-conscious theatre festival will occupy both theater spaces (Upstairs and Downstairs) at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street) and will also be offering film and music festivals, 14 free play readings & other special events. This summer, the festivity will also feature nearly forty full productions including new comedies, dramas and musicals, riveting docu-theater and solo pieces, and one-acts. During the festivity, each show partners with a charity and some of the ways they offer support are soliciting donations at shows, holding special benefit performances, fundraisers and/or talkbacks after performances with representatives from the charity.
