Since bursting onto the New York musical theater scene in 1995 with his short-lived, but highly-praised Off-Broadway revue Songs For a New World, and then winning a 1999 Tony Award for Best Score for another short-lived show, Parade, pundits have been consistently predicting Jason Robert Brown's membership into the musical theater composer pantheon. While he has quite made it there yet, this week at his concerts at 54 Below (September 11-15), Brown offered a preview of songs from upcoming musicals that could finally allow him entree among the gods of Broadway musical composing.

Toby Stephens Cast in Starz Original Series BLACK SAILS

STARZ announced today the casting of Toby Stephens in the lead role of 'Captain Flint' in the upcoming Michael Bay-produced original series BLACK SAILS, which is expected to air on STARZ in 2014. The eight-episode first season of the pirate adventure centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men, and takes place 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic 'Treasure Island.'

HBO Acquires U.S. Rights to CASTING BY Documentary

HBO Documentary Films has acquired the U.S. television rights to Tom Donahue's feature documentary film CASTING BY, it was announced today. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday evening to an enthusiastic crowd and will next be screened at the New York Film Festival.
