Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 2017-18 Kumble Theater season with jazz singer/songwriter Alicia Olatuja. Drawing from a wide range of musical influence including classical, R&B, soul, and gospel, this Brooklyn resident brings her scintillating jazz stylings to Brooklyn's Kumble Theater, including a preview of selections from her yet-to-be-released second album, Intuition: Songs from the Minds of Women. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in advance at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the Brooklyn Center box office at 718-951-4500. Day-of-show tickets should be purchased at the Kumble Theater on the downtown Brooklyn campus of LIU, located at 1 University Plaza, or by calling the Kumble Theater box office at 718-488-1624.

Arrangements of the music of Tadd Dameron, Louis Armstrong, Clifford Brown, original compositions, and more. Leo Maxey is a Baltimore area jazz trumpeter. Reared in Augusta, GA, he began his musical studies under the tutelage of his father Leonard Maxey, Sr. and Darian Washington and studied with the likes of local greats John Bradley, Michael Katterjohn, and Todd Jenkins. He holds tenure with the BCJO and has performed with artist to include the David Murray Baltimore Big Band, Frankie Ruiz, Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra, the Whitt Williams Big Band, The Four Tops, The Impressions, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and others. He studied with Alex Norris, Tim Murphy, Gary Thomas, Michael Formanek, Paul Bollenback, Russell Thomas, Robert Blaine, and Darcie Bishop.

Blue Note Hawaii announced today a new venture: The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends Series. Blue Note started in New York as a jazz club. Wanting to stay true to their roots, the institution of jazz will present some of the most iconic straight-ahead jazz artists in the world. The Royal Conservatory of Music regrets to announce that, unfortunately, Hugh Masekela will be unable to join Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya for the Jazz Epistles concert at Koerner Hall on Saturday, April 21, 2018 due to complications from prostate cancer. The Conservatory sends Hugh Masekela best wishes and hopes he is able to rehabilitate from this condition. Freddie Hendrix will be assuming the trumpet chair in place of Mr. Masekela for this concert.
