Since the stories and cast of HENRY IV (pts. 1 & 2) and HENRY V intertwine, it's only fitting that I review Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' marvelous productions together. The shows will alternate (every evening except Tuesdays), and there will be special performances the next two weekends where both plays will be performed back to back. It's an amazing feat and since it's free to the public there's no reason not to pack up the whole family for a trip to Forest Park to check out these entertaining history lessons. Artistic Director Rick Dildine has put together an experience that I cannot recommend highly enough. It's truly a triumph.
Jim Butz will play the expansive role of Prince Hal/King Henry V in Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' productions of Henry IV and Henry V, today, May 17 through June 15, at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park, it was announced today by Rick Dildine, artistic and executive director of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis.
The Porters of Hellsgate take on Shakespeare's most famous play about war upon their unworthy scaffold: The Whitmore Theatre. Embracing The Chorus' initial warning as to the inadequacies of his company's resources to 'bring forth so great an object', this Henry V will be brought forward with the grittiness and edge The Porters have become known for. Within this 'wooden O' both cast and audience will be taken in to the unapologetically theatrical journey of King Henry's invasion and conquest of France.
If 'all the youth of England are on fire,' as the first speech of HENRY V's Act II declares, then all the Porters of Hellsgate have carried the torch forward with guns blazing. Without a doubt, this is the Porters' finest stage work to date and a testament to the kind of theatre magic that can be created out of thin air by the willing and able.

The Porters of Hellsgate take on Shakespeare's Henry V with Artistic Director Charles Pasternak in the director's chair and title role. Leon Russom, LA theatre vet and Gloucester from The Porters' King Lear last year, will play the iconic Chorus.
It's Shakespeare for the masses in 2014 as we celebrate the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth! In Southern California you'll find more productions and events than ever so mark your calendar now for a big year ahead.
"How this lord is followed!" exclaims a Painter in reference to Timon of Athens early in Act I of the play that bears his name. Director Charles Pasternak interprets the line quite literally by having his throng of greedy hangers-on trail behind Timon as he moves about the stage, billowing en masse like a bridal gown's train that sweeps and glides with every turn.
The actors comfortable interpretation of this verse, along with fantastic staging and great sword play made this show truly exceptional evening of theater.
The classic tale of two young lovers and feuding families, William Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET comes to the Denver Center Theatre Company's (DCTC) Stage Theatre tonight, January 25 - February 24.

This show was absolutely fun to watch with a huge cast and so much action, melodrama, mystery, intrigue and comedy occuring onstage, it would make your head spin!
Capping off their highly successful 2012 Season, The Porters of Hellsgate have announced their next production, Shakespeare's dark comedy, Measure for Measure-the Bard's deft exploration of the arrogance of power.
