What to do when you have a sure hit film or TV show that everyone's heard of? Make a Broadway Musical, of course.

"They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're altogether ooky!" The Broadway musical sensation The Addams Family is on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse October 1 through 26. Broadway's Rachel de Benedet and David Engel star in this musical comedy that brings the beloved and bizarre first family of comedy to life, complete with show-stopping musical numbers, the Broadway set and costumes by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch and puppets by the "inestimable" Basil Twist.

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) opens its 55th season with the Bay Area premiere of The Addams Family, a new musical based on the delightfully macabre drawings by cartoonist Charles Addams. CCCT's production will be directed and choreographed by New York-based Alex Perez and music directed by Michael Wiles, with set design by Stewart Lyle, costume design by Lisa Danz, lighting design by Zoe Gopnik-McManus, and sound design by Michael Kelly. This multiple Tony and Drama Desk award nominee, with book by Marshall Brickman (Jersey Boys) and Rick Elice (Peter and the Starcatcher), and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), plays weekends from today, Sep 19-Oct 19.

'The Addams Family' musical has an original story. The devilishly delightful family has a dilemma. Daughter Wednesday, the ultimate princess of darkness, has fallen in love with a sweet and smart young man from a respectable family. She wants her family to behave as if they were normal, too, when they meet him and his parents. But if you're peculiar, you're peculiar, and mayhem results when the Addams clan tries to host a family that, as it turns out, also has its own brand of dysfunction.

You don't go to see the musical The Addams Family to be moved or inspired; you go for laughs and fun. This iconic brand has been around for quite some time and you will walk out of the theatre thoroughly entertained having seen this show.

The Addams Family, the musical comedy based on the beloved Addams family cartoons created by Charles Addams, comes to life August 22, 2014 and runs through September 14, 2014 on the Lohrey Stage at Theatre Memphis. The frightfully funny and comically macabre show opens the 2014 -15 season for Theatre Memphis and features well known characters such as Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch and Grandma. Director Cecelia Wingate returns to Theatre Memphis at the helm of the production having directed last season's Theatre Memphis hit, Young Frankenstein. She is supported by musical director Jeffrey Brewer and Choreographer Jay Rapp.

The Addams Family musical will make its Southeastern premiere at the Savannah Summer Theatre Institute tonight. Directed by Benjamin Wolfe with musical direction by Andrew Austin and choreography by Sarah Claire Smith, The Addams Family runs through July 27.

Cartoonist and creator of the creepy and kooky characters that make up THE ADDAMS FAMILY, Charles Addams, probably never envisioned his work gracing the Broadway stage, but then, could anyone have imagined that such a thing would come to pass. After all, the original single panel cartoons only hinted at the oddly dark nature of his characters. The rest was fleshed out by a terrific TV show that ran in the early sixties, and a couple of feature films that came along in the early 1990's. The current production of the Broadway show is now playing The MUNY, and it's a riotously amusing presentation that had me and my son laughing at the onstage antics (book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice), and bouncing along to the catchy score (Andrew Lippa). This is an exceptional show that features a great cast who seem to be having an absolutely splendid time. The Addams Family is must-see entertainment.
