Brick Theater Presents THE COMIC BOOK THEATER FESTIVAL ISSUE #2, Now thru 6/29

Comics are sometimes called 'sequential art' - stories that unfold across time over the course of multiple images. This definition also applies to the art of theater - and with so much in common, it makes sense that the two should team up. After a successful first installment in 2011, the Comic Book Theater Festival is coming back to The Brick for 'Issue #2' in June 2014. Get ready for a new crop of shows that explore the intersection of the panel and the stage, the live and the drawn, the ink and the actor.

S2e Books Releases 'Something Known'

'Something Known', is the tale of a young monk, Eli Deo, who is about to leave his monastery in order to go out to discover the world beyond his simple life of prayer and devotion. However, the sacred, unknown brotherhood of Monks to which Deo belongs guards a powerful secret that holds Deo back from simply leaving. Instead, Deo flees from the brotherhood, an act that could lead to danger if the secret is revealed to the wrong parties. Years later, Deo returns to the monastery as a wealthy investor, and purchases the land next to it. On that land, he builds a town so that he can use his secret knowledge on the residents who live there, in order to show the other monks that the secret is ready to be revealed to the world beyond the brotherhood. The brotherhood does not agree with or approve of Deo's desire to share the secret, and so an internal debate rages amongst the brothers as to what should be done with Deo and his town: should Deo be allowed to continue his experiment to see if the implementation of the secret is successful or should Deo, his town and its residents be eliminated so as not to allow the secret's power to be exposed which could have disastrous consequences? Filled with magic and humanity, 'Something Known' is a story of a community where individuals deal with the sufferings of mortality and the miraculousness of daily life. Bookworks Presents Todays Shelf Awareness for Readers

When I was quite young, my great-aunt and I walked to our tiny library every week, first stopping at the corner store to buy bananas. After we had picked out our books, we'd sit on the front steps, eat a banana, and consider what we had chosen. (A rosy memory, since weather in western Washington precludes most step-sitting occasions.) Later, a bookmobile came around; I recall the thrill of stepping up into a world of wonders. Later still, our little town got a larger library, attached to the fire station. I raced through the books to the extent that Mrs. Dawes, the librarian, called my mother to ask if I could check out adult books. I wanted then to be a librarian--specifically, a bookmobile librarian--and have never lost my love for libraries.
