Jonathan McCrory Named New Director of Theatre Arts Program at National Black Theatre

Celebrating 45 Years as New York City's longest continually running black theatre, Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre Inc. [NBT] is proud to announce our appointment of Jonathan McCrory as the Director of Theatre Arts Program. McCrory follows in the footsteps of the late Theatre Arts Director, Tunde Samuels, who held the position for 25 years. McCrory with take the helm of the Theatre Arts Program as the Director in November when the launch National Black Theatre's 45h Season with the New York Premiere of "Last Saint On Sugar Hill" by Keith Josef Adkins directed by Seret Scott.

DETROIT '67 Heads to Harlem Following Run at The Public Theater, Now thru 4/14

Following its run at The Public Theater, Detroit '67, the much buzzed-about play by two-time NAACP Image Award recipient, Dominique Morisseau, will open at the National Black Theatre tonight, March 23. Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, the powerful drama will run through Sunday, April 14, presented by Time Warner. Billed as 'Uptown Meets Downtown,' the production is a collaboration between the Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director), National Black Theatre (Sade Lythcott, CEO; Nabii Faison, General Manager and The Public Theater (Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director; Patrick Willingham, Executive Director).

Pauletta Pearson Washington & Roscoe Orman Lead Revival Reading of POWER PLAY, 10/18

Dynamic producing duo Executive Producer, Mr. Voza Rivers' New Heritage Theater and Ms. Debra Ann Byrd's Take Wing and Soar will team up to bring Pauletta Pearson Washington and Roscoe Orman to the New York stage for a revival production of Lorey Hayes' POWER PLAY, a story about politics, passion and the power of God.

Classical Theatre of Harlem & Hip-Hop Theater Festival Present SEED

The OBIE Award-winning Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, Producing Director) in conjunction with Hip-Hop Theater Festival (Clyde Valentin, Executive Director and Kamilah Forbes, Artistic Director) will present the world & Off-Broadway premiere of SEED, an award-winning play written by Radha Blank & directed by Niegel Smith, at the National Black Theatre in Harlem.

CELEBRATION OF COLOR ON BROADWAY to Honor George C. Wolfe and Ruth and Stephen Hendel , 6/9

This evening the inaugural Celebration of Color on Broadway Awards will take place at SAKS Fifth Avenue (611 5th Avenue) beginning at 6PM. Honoring George C. Wolfe and Ruth and Stephen Hendel for their contributions to diversifying Broadway, the Celebration of Color on Broadway Awards will benefit Harlem's OPUS 118 , a private, non-profit organization that supports music education programs for public school students in low-income areas. In addition to the honors this event will celebrate the life of Barbara Ann Teer, founder of The National Black Theater.
