Cutting Ball Theater continues its 2012 celebration of August Strindberg's centennial with the first installment of this season's Hidden Classics Reading Series today, August 19, 2012, at 1 p.m. One of Strindberg's best known plays, THE FATHER, like Strindberg's Miss Julie, is an intense look at the power struggles between men and women.

Remy Bumppo Theatre Presents SEASCAPE, 9/12-10/14

Long-time Remy Bumppo Artistic Associate Nick Sandys succeeded in obtaining rights to Seascape to open his first full season as the theatre's Artistic Director, themed 'The Marriage Game: Truth and Consequence?' Sandys will be directing the production, his first time to direct Albee since doing The Zoo Story in Texas in 1989. Seascape runs September 12 through October 14, 2012, at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave.

The performance will be followed by a reception in the theater space.

Cutting Ball Theater Announces 2012-13 Season

San Francisco's cutting-edge Cutting Ball Theater today announced the lineup for its 13th season. The season opens in October with Strindberg Cycle: The Chamber Plays in Rep, August Strindberg's Chamber Plays in new translations by Paul Walsh, directed by Cutting Ball Artistic Director Rob Melrose; this will be the first time all five of Strindberg's Chamber Plays will be performed together in repertory in any language.

Cutting Ball Hosts RISK IS THIS... Experimental Festival, Now thru 7/14

Cutting Ball Theater closes its 12th season with the adventurous RISK IS THIS…THE CUTTING BALL NEW EXPERIMENTAL PLAYS FESTIVAL, one of the only play festivals in America solely dedicated to experimental works for the stage. This year's festival, which will run tonight, June 8 to July 14, features two new works and five new translations in staged readings. Like the 2011 festival, which featured workshops of two Cutting Ball commissioned works, this year's festival offers a unique opportunity to see plays in development, alongside the artists creating them, as the works find their theatrical voice.

PLAYING WITH FIRE to Open Off-Broadway 6/21

August Strindberg Repertory will move its all black cast production of Strindberg's 'Playing With Fire' to the Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street, from June 15 to June 30, raising it to an Off-Broadway contract.

August Strindberg Repertory Theatre and Negro Ensemble Company Present PLAYING WITH FIRE, Now thru 6/10

August Strindberg's Chekhovian comedy, 'Playing With Fire' (Leka med elden, 1893), in a translation by Ulrika Brand that has been newly adapted by Obie-winner Leslie Lee, Executive Director of Negro Ensemble Company, will be presented tonight, May 18 to June 10 with an all-black cast as the inaugural production of August Strindberg Repertory Theatre, directed by Robert Greer. The play, to be staged at New School for Drama, 151 Bank Street (West Village), will be a co-production of August Strindberg Repertory Theatre and Negro Ensemble Company in association with Theater Resources Unlimited.

Cutting Ball Theater Extend TENDERLOIN Run to June 3

Cutting Ball Theater has announced that it will add an additional four performances of its current hit production of TENDERLOIN, a World Premiere about the people and places in Cutting Ball Theater's neighborhood. Written by Annie Elias, with theater documentarians Tristan Cunningham, Siobhan Doherty, Rebecca Frank, Michael Uy Kelly, Leigh Shaw, and David Sinaiko (with additional writing by David Westley Skillman), and directed by Elias, TENDERLOIN plays now through June 3 (added performances: Thursday, May 31, 7:30pm; Friday, June 1, 8pm; Saturday, June 2, 8pm; Sunday, June 3, 5pm).

Cutting Ball Theater Holds THE STRONGER, PARIAH and SIMOON Readings Today, 5/6

Cutting Ball Theater continues its 2012 celebration of August Strindberg's centennial with a Hidden Classics presentation of three one-act plays that show the power of Strindberg's invention. The Theatre School at DePaul University's THE DEATH OF GAIA DIVINE Begins Previews 5/2

The Theatre School at DePaul University presents THE DEATH OF GAIA DIVINE, by Jacob C. Shuler, and directed by John Jenkins, as the featured production in the 2012 New Playwrights Series. THE DEATH OF GAIA DIVINE opens Friday, May 4, and runs through Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Greenhouse Theater Center. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews begin today, May 2 and continue tomorrow, May 3 at 7:30 PM.
