An exhibition featuring three related painting and sculpture installations created by Brooklyn artist Caitlin Cherry for the Brooklyn Museum is the latest in the continuing Raw/Cooked series of work by under-the-radar Brooklyn artists, presented with support from Bloomberg. The exhibition, Hero Safe, will be on view June 7 through September 1, 2013.

The Art Institute of Chicago has announced the appointment of Victoria Sancho Lobis as the new Prince Trust Associate Curator in the Department of Prints and Drawings, effective September 15, 2013. Lobis, a multilingual scholar, brings to the museum expertise in both Netherlandish Baroque and Latin American colonial art, adding new dimensions to an already strong department.

President Nancy J. Uscher announced today the appointment of Moira Scott Payne as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Cornish College of the Arts. Ms. Payne is currently Programme Director of Art and Media, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, in Dundee, Scotland. She will assume her new position at Cornish on October 1, 2013.

Today the Frist Center for the Visual Arts installed its newest outdoor sculpture, Inveterate Composition for Clare by Brooklyn-based artist Rachel Owens. The multimedia sculpture-composed of Humvee shells, lights and an internal sound system that emits whale sounds-is stationed at the Center's Demonbreun Street entrance; it will remain on view through August 1, 2014. Planned to coincide with the Art Institute's major exhibition Picasso and Chicago, this presentation from the Department of Prints and Drawings is inspired by the modern master's love of poetry-Picasso was close friends with poets, including Max Jacob, Guillaume Apollinaire, Andre Breton, and Paul Eluard, and collaborated with them from his earliest days in Paris. Taking Picasso's passion as a jumping-off point, this collection of works on paper surveys the myriad ways visual artists have been inspired by or collaborated with poets in the 20th century.
