Luxembourg & Dayan is pleased to announce an exhibition of seminal works by Mario Schifano (1934-1998), one of Italy's most significant postwar artists. Schifano was a radical figure who considered painting to be the frontier of the avant garde, an intrinsically human art form capable of capturing the beating pulse of contemporary culture. His prodigious talent, somewhat obscured in his day by an eccentric personality and self-destructive drive, was at its height in the 1960s, a decade in which he experimented extensively with ever-changing media and techniques, traversing a wide spectrum of styles that he made entirely his own.

Opening Reception: Today, October 25 3-5pm MAG Gallery, 126 Larchmont Avenue, Larchmont, NY. Hours: Tues-Sat 11-5pm. Exhibition Oct 21-November 15. Hilda Green Demsky, a Fulbright Fellow, recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts grant and winner of the Andy Warhol Visual Arts Residency, has had an extensive, multi-faceted career focusing on the ebb and flow of her life. From the Pennsylvania coal mines of her youth, to our polluted waterways, to the cosmos, to the parks of New York and New England (Artist-in-Residence at Acadia National Park), Ms. Demsky shares the highlights of her career as a fine artist in this 60-year retrospective exhibition. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art & Design, Ms. Demsky began paintings of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Company, which were exhibited at City Center Gallery and Lincoln Center. Travel has been a big influence in her outpouring of canvases, as she received numerous art residencies, awards and fellowships from all over the world creating landscape, abstract and environmental paintings. Her outer space artworks were inspired by an invitation to witness a launch at the NASA Space Center in Florida after receiving the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship. Her exhibition at the National Gallery of Costa Rica reflected her love of painting 'en plein air' on canvas and Mylar. A resident of Larchmont, NY, Ms. Demsky has been a member of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild for 42 years and is a member of the Katonah Museum Art Association, the Pen & Brush, and National Association of Women's Artists. The book, 'Hilda Green Demsky: The Flow of the Artist's Life and Work,' containing her biography and more than 100 color photographs of her paintings, will accompany this exhibition. Today we are talking to the gifted composer and lyricist behind the earth-shattering score for Broadway's biggest recent hit, HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, the versatile and passionate Stephen Trask. Shedding considerable light on the development of the idiosyncratic rock musical, Trask discusses his influences and the organic way in which the outre show developed from humble beginnings at downtown bar Squeezebox in the mid-1990s, to Off-Broadway hit at the turn of the new century all the way to the rapturously received feature film adaptation, and, now, the 2014 Broadway production. Trask also details his affection for Tony Award-winning lead actor Neil Patrick Harris and looks ahead to the new leading man donning the titular wig, Andrew Rannells. Additionally, Trask also shares news on the forthcoming sequel to HEDWIG currently being developed with John Cameron Mitchell and teases some of what we can expect from the hotly anticipated theatrical experience. Furthermore, Trask reflects on his own upbringing and musical influences and how that informed the composition of the score for HEDWIG, as well as his own favorite performers. Plus, Trask reflects on his fruitful career as a movie scorer in Hollywood and comments on his upcoming musical endeavors, including two original stage musicals - JUST THE BLACK KEYS, a real-life inspired original musical potentially involving Peter Askin and Michael Mayer, as well 15 MINUTES, a Studio 54-centric period piece written with Rick Elice - as well as much, much more.
