Freud, Kushner and Spiegelman Headline WISH YOU WERE HERE at The Jewish Museum, Dec 2013

In December The Jewish Museum will launch a new program series, Wish You Were Here. The first offering is a discussion between Jens Hoffmann, The Jewish Museum's Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Public Programs, and Dr. Sigmund Freud, as presented by noted Freud scholar Michael S. Roth. Over the next two years, Hoffmann will interview the subjects of Andy Warhol's Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century (1980), interpreted by prominent experts, as if each were coming to the Museum to have a conversation in the present day.

As part of the ninth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 and 3-Legged Dog present TYSON vs. ALI from Reid Farrington. Harrowing and unpredictable, TYSON vs. ALI realizes the greatest heavyweight-boxing match that never happened, placing two giants of boxing, Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, into the ring in a way no one thought possible.

Playwrights Horizons Will Host Special 'WATSON INTELLIGENCE' Panel, 12/14

Acclaimed theater company Playwrights Horizons will present the second curated panel discussion of its 2013/2014 Season on Saturday afternoon, December 14. The event is being held in connection with the current World Premiere production of THE (curious case of the) WATSON INTELLIGENCE, a new play by Madeleine George (The Zero Hour), directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (Go Back to Where You Are, Blue Door and The Call at PH; The Madrid, Chinglish, Golden Child, Well).

The Hornets' Nest series of script-in-hand readings with professional actors and directors returns with three plays investigating the most difficult and controversial questions of today. Alan Gilbert Leads the NY Phil in Britten's 100th Birthday Celebration Tonight

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in a celebration of the centennial of English composer, conductor, and pianist Benjamin Britten. The program will include Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, featuring tenor Paul Appleby and Philharmonic Principal Horn Philip Myers, and Britten's Spring Symphony, with soprano Kate Royal (in her Philharmonic debut), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Philharmonic subscription debut), tenor Paul Appleby, New York Choral Artists directed by Joseph Flummerfelt, and Brooklyn Youth Chorus directed by Dianne Berkun-Menaker. The concerts, which include a performance on the composer's 100th birthday, November 22, will take place tonight, November 21, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 23 at 8:00 p.m.

Critically acclaimed singer, guitarist, and composer Howard Fishman and his childhood friend, New York Times travel journalist, author, and photographer Michael Benanav will chronicle their travels through rural Romania and Hungary in the multimedia song cycle No Further Instructions at The Jewish Museum on Thursday, November 21 at 7:00pm. Fishman, appearing with his 'Romanian Orchestra,' will play original music blending bluegrass, experimental rock, and Balkan brass while Benanav recites from Joshua and Isadora, his memoir about the remarkable story of his grandparents, Holocaust survivors who met in that part of the world. Projections of photos taken by Benanav during their trip complement the music and the story. This dramatic music performance, a New York premiere, is a unique blend of song, historical memoir, photography and storytelling.

FABnyc to Host Bi-Annual Load OUT!, 11/2

On Saturday, November 2, 2013, Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc) will host its seventh Load OUT! - a twice yearly 'riot' of repurposing and recycling activities.
