Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Beethoven's Symphony No. 5; Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta; and Ligeti's Mysteries of the Macabre, for Trumpet and Orchestra, featuring Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin in his Philharmonic solo debut, Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. Alan Gilbert and the Orchestra will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, with Lang Lang as soloist; Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta; and Ligeti's Mysteries of the Macabre, with Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin as soloist, Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 8 at 8:00 p.m.

Over Labor Day Weekend, the Franklin Stage Company is delighted to welcome back writer-actress Patricia Buckley with her solo play 'Evolution.' With a story that blends the lives of two sisters, their mother, and the unique evolution of whales, 'Evolution' is a deeply moving, often wildly funny tale of how human beings endure, evolve and move on. Buckley performed an earlier version of 'Evolution' to sold-out houses at FSC at the start of the 2015 season, and patrons have clamored ever since for its return.

New York Philharmonic Announces Free Insights at the Atrium Events

The New York Philharmonic has announced the 2016-17 season's Insights at the Atrium series, free events exploring themes of the Philharmonic's concert season through multimedia lectures, conversations, and panel discussions. Expanding to eight events this season, Insights at the Atrium has gained in popularity since its inception in 2011, helping thousands of audience members delve more deeply into the music, musicians, and ideas featured in the Philharmonic's season through a dynamic and accessible forum. All events are held at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center and begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, July 10, over one hundred black women artists gathered at the New Museum to form a collective force underground, known as Black Women Artists for Black Lives Matter (BWA for BLM). Simone Leigh, the New Museum's current artist-in-residence, whose exhibition 'The Waiting Room' is on view through September 18, convened this group in response to the continued inhumane institutionalized violence against black lives in the U.S.

The Franklin Stage Company announces a surprise addition to its 20th season programming. On Friday August 19th at 8pm and Saturday August 20th at 2pm, FSC hosts the NYC-based theatre company Loop Troupe with a rehearsed reading of their new play Wisenheimer's Master Plan, an original comedy that is deeply inspired by three classics, Moliere's School for Wives and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest. Loop Troupe's mission is to bring the public entertaining, thought-provoking and critical work that examines our modern life, and the company shares FSC's interest in classic and classically-inspired texts. In their plays, Loop Troupe sets classical themes, structures, and character archetypes within a modern context.
