Casting for American Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker, co-presented by Segerstrom Center for the Arts and ABT, was announced today by Kevin McKenzie, ABT Artistic Director and Terry Dwyer, Segerstrom Center President. Choreographed by ABT Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky, The Nutcracker will be given 12 performances at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, December 9-18, 2016. The Nutcracker, set to music by Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky, features choreography by Alexei Ratmansky, scenery and costumes by award-winning designer Richard Hudson and lighting by Jennifer Tipton. The Pacific Symphony performs the beloved holiday score. In the Los Angeles Times review from last year's inaugural Center performance, it declared, "Choreographer Alexei Ratmansky has made his own Christmas miracle: a joyful 'Nutcracker' ballet that is ravishing and clever enough to inspire multiple viewings."

Artistic Director Julie Kent is pleased to announce that Monica Stephenson joined the faculty at The Washington Ballet's southeast campus TWB@THEARC effective September 1. The move reaffirms TWB's commitment to continuing the growth and excellence of education and community engagement programs in the greater Washington community. A total of 71 dancers make up the Company roster, with 57 in Boston Ballet, the main professional company, and 14 in Boston Ballet II (BBII), the second company. A total of 17 nationalities are represented, with dancers from Brazil, South Korea, France, Georgia, and Australia, to name a few. More than 32 percent of the main company are BBII alumni and 18 percent are Boston Ballet School alumni. This year marks Principal Dancer Erica Cornejo's final season with Boston Ballet after dancing with the Company for 11 seasons. Cornejo will retire from Boston Ballet in May 2017 with final performances in The Sleeping Beauty.

The announcement was made by Director Pamela Tatge at the Pillow's 2016 Festival Finale, with the official ground-breaking ceremony to take place at the Pillow on Friday, October 14 at 5pm.

Colorado Ballet seeks schools and organizations throughout Colorado and out-of-state to participate in free remote live streams of its student matinee performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker during the 2016-2017 season. The Swan Lake live stream will take place at 10 a.m. MST on October 6 and The Nutcracker live stream will take place at 11 a.m. MST on December 2.

Faculty for the 2016-17 school year at the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (JKO) School was announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and ABT JKO School Artistic Director Cynthia Harvey. Joining the faculty this year as Principal Guest Instructor is former ABT Principal Dancer Ethan Stiefel. Also returning to train the next generation of dancers is former ABT and New York City Ballet Principal Dancer, Robert La Fosse. Both Stiefel and La Fosse will teach students in the ABT JKO Pre-Professional Division.
