Dance Theatre Of Harlem Opens Tonight With MLK Commemoration

New York's beloved Dance Theatre of Harlem, under the artistic direction of Virginia Johnson, returns to NY City Center for its annual homecoming season tonight, April 4, the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with the annual Vision Gala, honoring dance legend Carmen de Lavallade and civil rights icon Xernona Clayton.

YOUTH AMERICA GRAND PRIX To Present Annual Gala and Finals At Lincoln Center

World's largest student ballet scholarship audition - YOUTH AMERICA GRAND PRIX – returns to the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center to host its 2018 finals week in New York City. The week of ballet festivities will include the YAGP Final Round with performances by the world's most talented ballet students on April 18th, and the critically-acclaimed “Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow” Gala on April 19th.

Tony Award-Winning Lighting Designer, Natasha Katz, Accepts The 2018 Apple Award

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, a department within the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts at Wayne State University, will honor legendary Broadway lighting designer, Natasha Katz, with the 2018 Apple Award on Thursday, April 19, 2018 during an invitation-only ceremony at the Fisher Theatre prior to that evening's performance of Broadway's 'School of Rock,' for which Ms. Katz designed the lighting.

New York Library of Performing Arts Announces "Robbins At Night" at Lincoln Center

]As of now, as dusk descends on Lincoln Center, the ground in front of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is being illuminated with the digital exhibition, 'Robbins at Night,' featuring images of the dancing career and choreography of Jerome Robbins. It's being sourced exclusively from the collections of the Dance Division. The photographs, which span from the 1940's through the 1990's, chart Robbins' journey from dancer with American Ballet Theatre throughout to choreographer and Co-Artistic Director of New York City Ballet.

New York Theatre Ballet Announces Program Change

The NYTB REP program with a World Premiere by Richard Alston has now added encore performances of three of Jerome Robbins' rarely seen ballets: Septet, Concertino and Rondo, recently performed in sold-out shows in The Harkness Dance Festival 2018 at 92Y. The program will feature live music for all works.

San Francisco Ballet Announces 2018-19 Season

San Francisco Ballet has announced its 2018-19 Season program and schedule. This summer, SF Ballet will return to Festival Napa Valley for one performance only on Friday, July 27, 2018, accompanied by members of the SF Ballet Orchestra. In addition, the Company will also return to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., from October 23-28, 2018, where they will perform two mixed-bill programs of selected works from Unbound: A Festival of New Works.

BWW Review: Juilliard Spring Dances 2018, as Superb as Ever Following Larry Rhodes' Retirement

Back in December of 2017, I wrote a glowing review for BWW DanceWorld of Julliard's New Dances Celebrating the Legacy of Lawrence Rhodes in honor of his retirement after 15 years as artistic director. I am delighted to report that since then, Taryn Kaschock Russell as acting director of Juilliard Dance has kept the program's excellence alive and even judged it a notch upward in terms of superb dancing and choreography. This was evidenced on the afternoon of Saturday, March 24th 2018 during an almost completely satisfying performance of 'Spring Dances' at Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

American Ballet Theatre's 2018 Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 14 - July 7, will feature the World Premieres of AFTERITE by Wayne McGregor and Harlequinade by ABT Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky. Tickets for ABT's 2018 Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House go on sale at the box office on Sunday, March 25 at 12 Noon.

BWW Dance Review: Encores Has Come Again to New York City Center Theater with Grand Hotel The Musical

Wednesday, March 21, 2018 was the grand opening of Grand Hotel. I was thrilled to be in attendance and the performance did not disappoint. With the book by Luther Davis; music and lyrics by Robert Wright and George Forrest; additional music lyrics by Maury Yeston, music director of the Encores! Orchestra, Rob Berman; and directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes; as well as a talented cast, the performance was great fun from beginning to end.

WOMEN IN THE WORLD Announces Participants for Annual Summit!

Today, Tina Brown Live Media and Women in the World announced the initial lineup of participants for the 9th annual Women in the World Summit held at Lincoln Center in New York City.  This year's Summit will open at the David H. Koch Theater on Thursday, April 12 and run to Saturday, April 14.
