UP ON THE MARQUEE: COME FLY AWAY!

The new Broadway musical, COME FLY AWAY, conceived, choreographed, and directed by Tony Award-winner Twyla Tharp and featuring vocals by Frank Sinatra, is gearing up for it's March 25th opening at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway). BroadwayWorld brings you a look at the theater's marquee.

FRANKLY, MY DEAR Debuts at Chaffin's Barn 3/18-4/24

The time is 1939 and Selznick has already begun filming Gone With the Wind, but needs a new script. There's only one writer up to the task - the legendary Ben Hecht. The only problem is that Hecht has never read the book and there's only one week to re-write the script. Selznick locks himself, Hecht and director Victor Fleming (pulled off the set of The Wizard of Oz, which he is also directing) in his office to get the job done.

Asolo Rep Presents MANAGING MAXINE

Asolo Rep announces additional casting for award-winning Managing Maxine, Janece Shaffer's new play that takes a straight forward look at sex, love and life after 70. The cast features Howard Elfman as Louis, the role he originated last season in the world premiere of Managing Maxine at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.

Brooksher, Carlson & More Star in Kennedy Center's GOLDEN AGE 3/12-4/4

The Kennedy Center today announced the casting for Golden Age, a new play by Terrence McNally. Following its world premiere with the Philadelphia Theatre Company, the production will run March 12 to April 4, 2010 in the Kennedy Center Family Theater as part of Terrence McNally's Nights at the Opera, a five-week event featuring three of the playwright's works performed concurrently on three Kennedy Center stages.

LANGSTON IN HARLEM Premieres @ urban Stages 4/9; Gash Helms, Towers Stars

Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Artistic Director, Lauren Schmiedel, Managing Director) will present the World Premiere of the musical Langston in Harlem, featuring a book by Langston Hughes, Walter Marks and Kent Gash, with music by Walter Marks, lyrics by Langston Hughes and directed by Kent Gash, with musical direction by Barry Levitt and choreography by Byron Easley. Langston in Harlem will begin previews on Friday, April 9; opening on Thursday, April 15, 2010 and will initially run through May 2, 2010.

AMERICAN IDIOT Garners 12 SF Critics Circle Noms.

This year's Critics Circle Awards, sponsored by Actor's Equity Association, today announced is nominees for excellence in San Francisco Bay area theater. Berkeley Rep's production of American Idiot, which played in the fall of 2009, leads with 12 nominations and will open on Broadway this spring.

The Colony Theatre Company presents the fourth production of its 35th anniversary season, the West Coast Premiere of CELADINE, written by Charles Evered and directed by Andrew Barnicle. CELADINE will run from February 6 to March 7.

Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance Celebrates World Theatre Day, 3/27

2010 will mark the seventh year that The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance has organized local World Theatre Day celebrations. While World Theatre Day was established by the International Theatre Institute on March 27th, 1961, many theatre artists are still unfamiliar with this one day a year when we commemorate Theatre.

Photo Flash: Tovah Feldshuh Stars in GOLDA'S BALCONY at The Globe, 4/28-5/30

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced that due to unforeseen conflicts with Roger Rees' schedule, The Old Globe's upcoming production of What You Will has been replaced with Golda's Balcony starring four-time Tony Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh. Written by William Gibson and supervised by Scott Schwartz, Golda's Balcony earned Feldshuh a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress, and is the longest running one-woman show in Broadway history. Golda's Balcony will run in the Old Globe Theatre April 28 - May 30.

Finborough Wins Pearson Award Bursary & Announces New Playwrights-in-Residence

Following the appointment of our former Literary Associate Titas Halder as Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse, the Finborough Theatre has appointed a new team to manage its acclaimed Literary Department, working closely with Artistic Director Neil McPherson. The new team are Literary Manager Van Badham, Literary Assistant Daniel Burgess and Senior Reader Laura Jessop. The first fruits of their work will appear in Vibrant 2010 - An Anniversary Festival of Finborough Playwrights , celebrating the 30th year of the Finborough Theatre with 30 new plays by 30 UK and international playwrights, discovered, developed or championed by the Finborough Theatre including world premieres of brand new work from some of the hundreds of playwrights who began their careers with us.

ivic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and Executive Producer James A.
