NY Phil's Music Series CONTACT! to Expand to New Venues for 2013–14 Season

Entering its fifth season in 2013-14, CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, is extending its reach by presenting more concerts in new venues including SubCulture - a new arts venue in downtown Manhattan - in partnership with 92nd Street Y, and The Museum of Modern Art. The upcoming season of CONTACT! will feature four concert programs, an expansion over previous seasons. Dedicated to the works of emerging and iconic contemporary composers, CONTACT! in the 2013-14 season will feature works for ensembles of New York Philharmonic musicians as well as programs of solo works performed by Philharmonic musicians and distinguished guests.

NY PHIL BIENNIAL to Run Through June 7 at Lincoln Center Campus

From May 28 to June 7, 2014, the New York Philharmonic will present the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a kaleidoscopic exploration of today's music by a wide range of contemporary and modern composers that will showcase an array of curatorial voices through concerts presented with partners in venues both on and off the Lincoln Center campus.

NY Phil Release New Magnus Lindberg Album via Dacapo Records

The New York Philharmonic today releases a new album of World Premiere recordings of works by Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg. Released on Dacapo Records and distributed in the U.S. by the Naxos group, the album features works written for and performed by Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic during Mr. Lindberg's tenure as the Orchestra's MarieJosee Kravis Composer-in-Residence, 2009-12. The CD includes the live World Premiere performances of three New York Philharmonic commissions: EXPO, Al largo, and Piano Concerto No. 2 with pianist Yefim Bronfman, the last of which the New York Philharmonic co-commissioned with Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony.

The 2013 New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, will return for the 48th season with five free outdoor concerts, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (July 10); Cunningham Park, Queens (July 11); the Great Lawn in Central Park, Manhattan (July 13 and 15); and Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx (July 16). In addition, the New York Philharmonic Brass will give a Free Indoor Concert at the Center for the Arts, College of Staten Island, CUNY (July 14).

Sesame Street Visits Lincoln Center This April; Accessible Through YouTube

In April, the iconic children's television series Sesame Street –broadcast in more than 150 countries and seen by over 120 million international viewers—will visit another icon, Lincoln Center, the world's largest performing arts center, on its popular “People in Your Neighborhood” segment. Inspired by the classic Sesame Street song “The People in Your Neighborhood,” Murray Monster goes on location to interview real people about their jobs. The Lincoln Center segments will showcase the New York City Ballet, The Juilliard School, the New York Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera. Sesame Street airs regularly on PBS (check local listings), and the first Lincoln Center segment, “People in Your Neighborhood: Ballet Dancer,” airs April 4th. Each segment will also be accessible on Sesame Street's YouTube Channel in advance of its air date.

A new album of recordings of world premieres by Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg, written for and performed by Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, will be released on May 28 by Dacapo Records — the same label also releasing the Philharmonic's critically-acclaimed cycle of the complete symphonies and concertos of Carl Nielsen. The works, all premiered during Mr. Lindberg's tenure as The Marie-Josée Kravis Composer-in-Residence with the New York Philharmonic from 2009–2012, represent the composer's longstanding relationship with the Orchestra.
