Billy Porter & Kyle Dean Massey Join Lincoln Center's SINATRA: VOICE FOR A CENTURY Lineup

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) and the New York Philharmonic announce the addition of Tony and Grammy Award-winning actor, singer, director, composer, and playwright Billy Porter and actor and vocalistKyle Dean Massey to the star-studded concert fundraiser for the new David Geffen Hall on Thursday, December 3, in the hall, celebrating the music of Frank Sinatra on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Earlier this year music and media executive David Geffen gave a $100 million gift to Lincoln Center to lead a complete renovation of its largest concert hall, which now bears his name.

Pianist Daniil Trifonov, the 24-year-old Russian pianist who is beginning his final week as the spotlighted soloist in the three-week Rachmaninoff: A Philharmonic Festival, has joined the Board of Directors of the New York Philharmonic, elected on November 13, 2015.

Bass-baritone Eric Owens will continue his tenure as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in- Residence with performances, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, of Richard Strauss songs - "Ruhe, meine Seele," Op. 27, No. 1; "Ca?cilie," Op. 27, No. 2; "Pilgers Morgenlied," Op. 33, No. 4 - and the Final Scene from Act III of Die Walku?re, alongside soprano Heidi Melton in her Philharmonic debut. The program also includes Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Sibelius's En saga, one of several programs this season honoring the 150th anniversary of Sibelius's birth. The performances take place Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 8 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The New York Philharmonic will present Rachmaninoff: A Philharmonic Festival, tonight, November 10-28, 2015, featuring 24-year-old Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov performing three of the composer's piano concertos and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini over the course of three consecutive all-Rachmaninoff programs, each led by a different conductor: Cristian Macelaru (in his Philharmonic debut), Neeme Jarvi, and Ludovic Morlot.

The New York Philharmonic's 2015 holiday season presents classic masterpieces and seasonal favorites, the Philharmonic's Artist-in-Residence and Artist-in-Association as well as debuts, and continuing and new traditions. This schedule includes the 20th annual Holiday Brass concert, featuring the return of the Canadian Brass, which helped launch the event in 1995, alongside the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet; Handel's Messiah, led by Jane Glover in her New York Philharmonic debut; Oh, What Fun! A Philharmonic Holiday, led by Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Courtney Lewis and featuring the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Eric Owens performing “You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” and a carol sing-along; and New Year's Eve: La Vie Parisienne, led by Alan Gilbert and featuring mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, Artist-in-Association Inon Barnatan, and pianist Makoto Ozone. The New Year's Eve concert will be telecast live nationally on Live From Lincoln Center on PBS stations.

For the last century, the three B's of classical music have been Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, and their catalogues remain the programming bedrock of most symphony orchestras around the world. On Friday, Oct. 23rd the New York Philharmonic gave a very strong argument for Brahms remaining at the very top of the programmatic choices. It was an extremely well-considered and magnificently executed combination of very old and very new (if you can say that about Brahms) selections that combined for a deeply fulfilling performance.
