The New York Philharmonic will present The Russian Stravinsky: A Philharmonic Festival conducted by Valery Gergiev on April 21-May 8, 2010.

String quartet Crucible (Cornelius Dufallo and Chris Otto, violins; John King, viola; and Alex Waterman, cello) and special musical guests will perform music from composer John King's new CD '10 Mysteries' at NYC's Roulette on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 8:30 pm.

Now celebrating its 230th anniversary, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences has elected baritone Thomas Hampson as one of its new members. A center for independent policy research, the Academy is among the nation's oldest and most prestigious honorary societies, and Hampson is one of 229 leaders in the arts, humanities, sciences, business, and public affairs to be awarded membership this year.

An estimated 46,835,718 people have heard the Philharmonic live, in person, since its inception in 1842; 1,590 musicians have served as members of the Orchestra over the years.

Credit Suisse, a leading financial services provider, and the New York Philharmonic, America's oldest symphony orchestra, today, May 4, announced that Credit Suisse has renewed its Global Sponsorship of the Orchestra for three years. The partnership, which began in the 2007-08 season, has enhanced the global brand presence of Credit Suisse, and represented the Bank's first signature cultural sponsorship in the United States, involving all events in New York, across the United States, and around the world. The collaboration unites two longstanding institutions that share historic commitments to excellence and creativity. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in his first free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 31, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street. This will be the 19th annual free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Music will also be piped out onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.

It's the end of the world as we know it.... Le Grand Macabre is coming May 27-29, when Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic give the New York premiere of Ligeti's opera in a new, staged production directed and designed by Douglas Fitch.

In his continuing commitment to education and to encouraging young people to experience music, New York Philharmonic Music Director, Alan Gilbert will conduct the Orchestra's six School Day Concerts for the first time, Wednesday-Friday, May 19-21, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Mr. Gilbert is the first Philharmonic Music Director to lead these performances since Zubin Mehta did so in February 1991.

The New York Philharmonic will inaugurate MUSICAL SUPPERS, four post-concert suppers featuring menus created by world renowned chefs Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Lidia Bastianich, and Daniel Boulud. The Friday-evening suppers, to be hosted by food critic Mimi Sheraton, will be prepared by Restaurant Associates and will take place at Arpeggio Food and Wine in Avery Fisher Hall on January 8, 2010 (Ducasse); February 12 (Vongerichten); April 16 (Bastianich); and June 4 (Boulud).
