BWW Interviews: Jeffrey Eckstein Discusses Conducting Ballet Austin's GISELLE

This Mother's Day weekend, Ballet Austin will present Giselle, the classic and beloved ballet of love, heartbreak and madness. Giselle is among ballet's great classics, with a lead role so challenging it has been known to make and break careers. Theophile Gautier-the influential French poet, author, critic and champion of the Romantic ballet-conceived Giselle in honor of ballerina Carlotta Grisi. With love, betrayal, heartbreak and forgiveness, Giselle brings a romantic close to the season. Giselle features choreography by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, Music by Adolphe Adam. The score will be performed live by the Austin Symphony Orchestra. BroadwayWorld had a chance to discuss the ballet with Maestro Jeffrey Eckstein who will be conducting the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Alexei Ratmansky 3-Part Premiere, LE CORSAIRE and More Set for American Ballet Theatre's 2013 Season at the Met, 5/13-7/6

American Ballet Theatre's 2013 season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 13-July 6 will be highlighted by the World Premiere of a three-part work set to music by Dmitri Shostakovich and choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, the Company Premiere of Sir Frederick Ashton's A Month in the Country and a new production of Le Corsaire. Culture at the crossroads in Belle Époque France will be explored at the ninth annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again features a sumptuous tapestry of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 23rd annual Bard Music Festival.

Lincoln Center Festival Kicks Off Tonight, 7/5; Full Listings

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, announced the Festival's line-up, which runs from tonight, July 5 through August 5, 2012. Theater offerings include Mikhail Baryshnikov in Dmitry Krymov's staging of a new play, In Paris, as well as Sydney Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya directed by Tamas Ascher and adapted by Andrew Upton. The stellar cast includes John Bell, Cate Blanchett, Hayley McElhinney, Richard Roxburgh, and Hugo Weaving.

Youth America Grand Prix Presents Ballerina Assoluta: A Tribute to Natalia Makarova Tonight

Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) presents "Ballerina Assoluta: A Tribute to Natalia Makarova" tonight, April 28 at 7:00 PM at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. This evening of dance will illustrate Natalia Makarova's contribution to the art of ballet by presenting some of her most iconic roles performed by today's leading dancers. Performers include Marcelo Gomes (American Ballet Theatre), Natalia Osipova (American Ballet Theatre/Mikhailovsky Theatre St. Petersburg), Sergei Polunin (formally of The Royal Ballet), Tamara Rojo (The Royal Ballet), Yuan Yuan Tan (San Francisco Ballet), Ivan Vasiliev (American Ballet Theatre/Mikhailovsky Theatre St. Petersburg) and Diana Vishneva (American Ballet Theatre/Mariinsky Ballet). Ms. Makarova will narrate the program, reflecting on her experiences as a dancer. In addition, rare photos and archival footage will be shared. Tickets for the performance are $20, $37, $45, $75, $100, $150.
