Today in 2000, Aida opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1852 performances. Aida is a musical with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang. Aida was nominated for five Tony Awards and won four Tony Awards in 2000, including Best Musical Score and Best Performance by a Leading Actress. Aida was also named by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. The First National tour was nominated for nine National Broadway Theatre awards (now 'Touring Broadway Awards') and won five awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Actor, and Best Actress.

The compilation of powerhouse female vocalists COVER GIRLS LIVE is set to kick off their Hollywood debut and residency this Thursday, March 19th with Special Guests Alex Newell (GLEE, The Glee Project) and JP Castillo (The Jacksons, Lifetime's BRING IT).

Happy Birthday Norbert Leo Butz! Butz made his Broadway debut as Adam Pascal's replacement as Roger Davis in Rent in 1996. Additional Broadway credits include Thou Shalt Not (Camille Raquin, 2001-2002), for which he received a Tony Award nomination; Wicked (the original Fiyero, 2003) and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Freddy) for which he received the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, a Drama League Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Award. His Off-Broadway credits include The Last Five Years (Jamie), Songs for a New World (Lead Male 2), Saved (Fred), and Juno and the Paycock (Jerry Devine). MOst recently, Butz originated the role of Carl Hanratty in the new musical Catch Me If You Can. For this role he won his second Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical[14] and his second Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

RENT has made its Cuban premiere! Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment announced in 2014 it would bring Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize winning musical to Havana. Directed by Andy Senor, Jr., who starred in RENT on Broadway, the show officialyl opened on Christmas Eve at Bertolt Brecht Theater for an expected three month run. Kerry Ellis, who takes over from Nicole Scherzinger as Grizabella in the current West End smash-hit, Cats, will feature inThe Night of Electric Voices on Sunday 1 March 2015 at 8pm at the London Coliseum, the largest theatre in London. It is announced today that Casualty heart-throb and winner of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Any Dream Will Do, Lee Mead, will be joining Kerry Ellis and the many stars of West End and Broadway.

Featuring four of Broadway's brightest stars, "Seasons of Broadway" is an evening of hit songs and personal backstage anecdotes, celebrating the diversity of Broadway and the powerful impact it has had beyond the theater.
