Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the next Roundabout Underground production Little Children Dream of God, a new play by Jeff Augustin, directed by Giovanna Sardelli. The cast and creative team will be announced shortly. Jeff Augustin is Roundabout's Playwright-in-Residence, generously supported by The Tow Foundation.

NAMT Awards Grants to Goodspeed Musicals, The Public Theater, 5th Avenue Theatre and More

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces nine awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its sixth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $35,500 to nine organizations across the country.

Ordinary Days, an acclaimed new musical by Adam Gwon, brings Round House's 2013/2014 season to a harmonious close as it makes its area premiere. Signature Theatre's Matthew Gardiner makes his Round House directing debut with this Off-Broadway hit by one of musical theater's most exciting new composers. Ordinary Days runs at Round House Theatre Bethesda from May 28 thru June 22. Opening night is Monday, June 2, 2014.

The Dramatists Guild's Anti-Piracy Committee just hosted their first-ever Anti-Piracy awareness event on Monday, April 21. During the event, established and up-and-coming musical theatre writers paired up to reach out to known sheet music pirates and ask them to take down the links to their sheet music. The day is intended to raise awareness about the problem of sheet music piracy and take steps against the digital distribution of stolen sheet music. BWW Reviews: Extraordinary Performances Save ORDINARY DAYS

A word of caution to writers everywhere. Never use a word as bland as 'ordinary' in the title of your work. Its use will either be prophetic or grossly inaccurate. In the case of Ordinary Days, it's a bit of both. While Penfold Theatre's production of the new chamber musical features some of the greatest talent that the Austin theater community has to offer, the material itself isn't up to par. The show is extraordinary, but the material is not.
