A Red Orchid Theatre announces that its smash-hit, world premiere production of Ensemble Member Brett Neveu's The Opponent, directed by fellow Ensemble Member Karen Kessler, is transferring to NY's 59E59 Theatre this summer, July 31-September 7, 2014. AROT will produce the remount in association with Bisno Productions (Broadway's Tony Nominated Mothers & Sons; Grace starring Paul Rudd and Michael Shannon). The Opponent will feature Ensemble Members Kamal Angelo Bolden and Guy VanSwearingen in the roles they originated during the production's extended run at A Red Orchid in 2012. This collaboration marks the launch of a new partnership with Bisno Productions, under the Company's extended mission to introduce its original work and ensemble to New York audiences: A RED ORCHID NYC.
A Red Orchid Theatre announces its 2014-2015 Season to include the US premiere of Abbie Spallen's Strandline directed by JR Sullivan (Faith Healer); the Chicago premiere of Accidentally Like a Martyr by Grant James Varjas, directed by Ensemble Member Shade Murray (Mud Blue Sky, The Aliens, Abigail's Party); and the Chicago premiere of Red Handed Otter by Ethan Lipton, directed by Ensemble Member Dado (Simpatico).

Victory Gardens Theater continues its 2013-2014 season with Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman, directed by Artistic Director Chay Yew. Death and the Maiden runs June 13 - July 13, 2014, with the press performance on June 20, 2014, at Victory Gardens Theatre, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue. Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced the line-up for the ninth annual First Look Repertory of New Work, featuring three developmental productions of new plays presented in rotating repertory July 26 - August 24, 2014 in the Garage Theatre (1624 N Halsted St). First Look 2014 includes: Ironbound by Martyna Majok, Hushabye by Tanya Saracho and Okay, Bye by Joshua Conkel. The 2014 festival also features readings of two new plays, American Beauty Shop by Dana Lynn Formby and Opium Den by Julie Marie Myatt. Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) plays Berenger in Eugene Ionesco's The Killer in a production that also features Kristine Nielsen, Paul Sparks and Robert Stanton. The Killer is newly translated by Michael Feingold and is directed by Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder). Last produced Off-Broadway in 1960, The Killer is the final production of Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural season at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place. Previews begin Saturday, May 17, at 7:30pm for an opening Thursday, May 29, and a scheduled run through Sunday, June 29. A Red Orchid Theatre announces a five week extension of its hit Chicago Premiere production of Marisa Wegrzyn's Mud Blue Sky directed by Ensemble Member Shade Murray. The production featuring AROT Ensemble Members Natalie West, Kirsten Fitzgerald and Mierka Girten will now run through Sunday, June 29, 2014 at A Red Orchid Theatre, 1531 N. Wells. In addition to the month-long extension, Saturday matinee performances have been added to the regular run beginning May 3.
Today, Artistic Director Robert Falls announces that his longtime associate, Producer Steve Scott, will direct Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning, 'deliriously funny, hilariously demented' Broadway hit, in Spring 2015 (dates TBA). A loving send-up of Chekhov's greatest works, Vanya makes its Chicago premiere in the Albert Theatre as part of the Subscription series in the theater's 90th Anniversary 'Season to Celebrate.'
