Part of the Bard's First Folio, Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy about two intertwined love stories. After a group of soldiers arrive in Messina, love emerges between Hero, the Governor's daughter, and Claudio, a young officer. The young pair then conspire with Don Pedro, Claudio's commanding officer, to play matchmaker and set-up Beatrice, Hero's cousin, and Benedick, Claudio's friend and fellow officer. This turns out to be no easy task indeed as both Beatrice and Benedick have both a distaste for love...and each other. Will love prevail for both couples? Or will they fall victim to the sinister scheme of Don Pedro's brother and self-proclaimed villain, Don John?

Stephen Sondheim's Broadway smash 'Company' is alive and well at the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst. Presented by StageLight Entertainment, this production of the 1970 musical is a smash hit! Performed with linear staging and in a very intimate setting, this smart production felt like it was being performed in the living room by your favorite and annoying circle of friends.

It is truly a pleasure to see Tony award winning musical A Little Night Music. A traditional musical, it is sophisticated and cleverly created by two masters of Broadway; Stephen Sondheim (score) and Hugh Wheeler (book). The tale follows the romantic lives of several couples with - of course - some twists and turns along the way.

It is hard to connect the soft-spoken young actor with whom I am conversing to the soul-singing, hip-swinging rogue he is playing onstage at the Pickard Theatre. Indeed, the more we chat, the more Kelvin Roston, Jr., who plays James 'Thunder' Early in the Maine State Music Theatre hit production of Dreamgirls, seems to be full of surprises.
Sometimes, all a writer/producer/director has to do is find one perfect combination of elements, that one elusive perfect formula, and it immediately takes off. More than that, it becomes a huge success, lasting for years and spawning a long line of sequels, spin-offs and imitators. Think the tv show Law & Order or the National Lampoon's series of movies. In the theatrical world, the equivalent musical might just be Nunsense. This hit musical comedy, with lyrics, book and music by Dan Goggin, has become the second longest running Off-Broadway show in history and has led to a number of sequels and spin-offs. In a nice bit of symmetry, Nunsense is now being presented at one of the area's most successful and longest-running venues, Theatre By the Sea.
